Gen 8 Catch Can

Hey everyone,
My names Jackson, recently purchased a 2.4 turbo diesel workmate with the 2gd engine. Done 8000ks and loving it!

Im looking into fitting a oil catch can as I have noticed a lot of people on here doing. I have noticed lots of people using the provent 200,but being an apprentice can't exactly justify spending that amount on the hilux kit, or buying the hpd catch can :/
Has anyone else fitted a catch can to their new hilux that was around $100 or less?
I did pick up a cheap D1 racing catch can like you find on ebay but the inlet sizes are too small for the pcv hose on our hilux's. So I don't think I'll be using it.
Does anyone have an alternative?
Also, anyone else running a catch can seeing the benefits? Pros and cons?
Thanks everyone

Pros, clean engine!!!! Cons, none! Ya could pick up the provent for about 160 and make your own bracket if needed. Mine is just bolted to the inner guard, previous model tho.

Any photos of your bracket? From what I can see it looks like you need to make a circular bracket to compress around it, are there any threaded mounting holes on it?

Would reducing the hose size cause problems? It's a big difference between the two, would there be any disadvantages of stepping the size down?

Will pressurize the crankcase downsizing too much! The provent comes with a bracket for mounting. I just put nutserts in the guard for strength but ya could get away with selftappers if ya dont do much offroading. Serch for the write up that the roo did. Mine is the same.

If the catch can didn't have a suitable size inlet that would be odd wouldn't it?

If you are still under new car warranty get your Toyota dealer to give you the all clear in writing, otherwise your engine warranty will be void.
Also consider a water trap.

Ended up just getting the provent 200,was a bit more than I wanted to spend but comes with everything you need from Western filters. They didn't have any mounting brackets so I made my own [THUMBS UP SIGN][THUMBS UP SIGN]

Genuine question, I thought it was the car manufacturer (and not the dealer) which warranties new cars? Would a dealer-issued letter, therefore, have any legitimacy if a warranty dispute arose? I thought that all warranty repairs had to be requested by the dealer from Toyota Australia for approval, and that the dealer otherwise has no authority over whether an issue is determined to be within scope of the warranty.

For used cars, on the other hand, that may be sold with a dealer warranty, then yeah, I'd imagine that a dealer-issued letter would be useful for aftermarket accessories.

Has anyone fitted a provent 200, what do you do with the adjustable valve on the side near the bottom outlet? Do you loosen it off or leave it tightened up? Not too sure how it was from new as I was fiddling with it in store when I bought it. Any ideas?

If you google the question you will soon find some experts talking about it.
I'd like to put a catch can and a water trap on mine but I'm not comfortable just yet, I need more info before I commit.

Title edited for al things Gen 8 catch can
Threads merged

A lot more information can be found by using the search here! function near the top
Below is what comes up when enter catch can into that box:
CATCH CAN

If its under warranty get your dealer to install - Toyota blame dead turbos on bolts droping into turbo during catch can installation

Hi guys, after some advice. My SR5 was one of the first off the boat and is coming out of warranty this November. She has done 60,000 KM. I am looking at installing a Taipan XP billet catch can. Is it worth trying to clean the air intake manifold after install? There are plenty of spray foams ect that could be used, or would I be better opening her up and giving her a good clean? Any advice would be appreciated.

Provent 200 along with ultra efficient filtration medium LC5002X is the best catch can in market

Here is the cheepest place you can order LC5002X from

https://www.dieselfiltersonline.com/lc- ... lator.html

Also, here is a comparison between different brands of catch cans

http://www.unsealed4x4.com.au/u4x4/issu ... Send+1#113

You'll be surprised to know that all aluminum bodied catch cans in this comparison (HPD, TiapanXP bilet, Calibre Polished 400cc) are the worst, with inferior filteration performance.

OIL + CATCH CANS

Hey guys,

Quick questions... (regarding 2.8 TD)

Will installing a Provent Oil Catch can void my warranty? I'm thinking that i should just ask my dealer?

Also, can anyone tell me what oil Toyota would be putting in during service? I am assuming 5W-30, not sure if anyome knows any different?

Cheers

Ask your dealer and the catchcan should be ok but get a letter from them confirming it.

The oil is variable as "Toyota oil" is whatever, depends on the dealer but would almost certainly be 5w30. Some dealers use Valvoline and others use what they get a good deal on and then put the "Toyota oil" sticker on.

Last dealer service on my Aurion had the Toyota sticker but I watched them put Valvoline engine armour in it :?

Why do you ask? Is it because you will do your own service? If so any quality oil will be fine but the 5w30 could be too light if you are not in a cold area. Consult the owners manual and use what the temperature chart suggests for your temperature range. I use 15w50 Penrite (1kd 3.0) but you would need something that is ok for dpf.
