I haven't received the letter yet, but I noticed on SAP (thru an ex-work colleague of mine at a dealer I used to work for) that my early '17 SR5 is flagged with the software update and option for retrofit of a manual burn switch, both CSEs. Will get it done early in the new year.

Morning All, has anyone else received a letter from Toyota recalling all Hilux diesel owners for the fitment of a new DPF?

I've only had the same letter as above, but I'd had a service 3 weeks ago and it was done then. No mention of a new filter. Does yours specifically say that?

My letter is as above.....not a DPF replacement but change of software, system inspection and activation of "Custom Mode" feature. It is campaign reference number LGG71.

What would help me is feedback from anyone with a SR level vehicle with the update that has the Custom Mode set and showing on the small display panel. The SA dealer insists that it only applies to SR5 level large information panel. I'd really like to show them a picture of it active on an SR panel.

I can now confirm that my dash displays when doing a burn, however im still not happy with the high fuel usage.
Might book it in again, i have a feeling when i took the car in for the update they didn't even check the dpf.

It clearly states it on the updated leaflet supplied with the "this is not a recall" letter. Image

I don't have a Hilux but my Fortuner GX (which has a similar small display panel) couldn't have Custom Mode Enabled when the dealer did mine. He said they were having issues trying to do it.

Hey everyone, Has anyone got an early month 2016 sr5 that has had the update and had the dpf regeneration alert come up on the dash activated? I’ve been told by my dealer that the alert on my 02/16 can’t be done. Can anyone prove them otherwise?

Shane

Hey mate, its a 2017 SR5, you would think they can display im sure the dash is the same, i would get that doubled checked by another dealer.

Interesting development on the Custom Mode setting for my SR level SCC diesel. I had no luck with the largest dealer in Adelaide when I had the vehicle serviced a week or so ago, they knew nothing about it, so I used the Contact Us message facility on Toyota Australia's own website to raise the issue with Toyota direct.

Within a couple of days I had a call from the local dealer and now the truck goes in to have the settings changed on Thursday.

No sign of any letter from Toyota though - I wonder if it's only going out to people who have had vehicles in for DPF clean outs or forced burns as opposed to a blanket mail out to all owners?

They post letters in bunches, or patches, starting with the older cars and moving on ... otherwise if they post all of them at the same time - dealerships would be overwhelmed with the calls and requests.

Mine is MY18, built in March this year, still did not get a letter. Called them to ask about it and was told the above.

My local dealership knew about it when I called them. I asked about the "manual DPF burn button" and they advised it needs to be approved by Toyota on case by case basis. Basically customer has to make a legit claim for the button.

Well, I told them, if they are happy to be paraded in the news and be held responsible because their vehicle set on fire Alpine National Park, so be it. (I am frequent in those places, and when I say "frequent", I mean A LOT).
You can guess what happened next .... button requested

Getting it done on next service.

Mines an April '18 build so what they told you is a load of bull cookies, I received my letter first week of December.

It'd also had the update at its service mid November.

I have an early 2016 SR SCC and can confirm that, after the latest ECU upgrade and setting Custom Mode, that I get the "DPF Regeneration in process" display. If I get it on an SR level dash in a 2016 vehicle you should definitely be able to get it on an SR5 level dash.

No, I did not ask for that and it wasn't mentioned. So far I haven't had any issue with the DPF apart from 2 slight smoke events after sustained high speed driving (110kph for 2-3 hours) so it's probably not warranted, it would be nice to have installed, just in case, though.

I've never received the letter from Toyota, the only way I knew about it's existence was through this forum (thanks) - so I'm wondering if Toyota is (a) only sending it to drivers who have complained of DPF issues or (b) staggering the release to reduce workload on the dealers?
