Called the local dealer to book my '18 SR5 in for its 20k service later in the week... got told that there is an update for the DPF/ECU and it would take an extra couple of hours to complete than usual.

Interesting to see though that it doesn't seem to be a recall as such, just something that is getting done as vehicles come through the workshop. I usually service my vehicles myself, however with capped price and warranty it's easier to get it dealer serviced during this period. Which begs the question, if (as i'm sure there are many members on here who don't use Toyota for their servicing), are vehicles able to be booked in separately to do this update or does it have to tag along with a service of sorts?

My vehicle isn't being serviced at the time. Ad-hoc appointment.

Getting soot in mine as well and we also use adblue here in sweden.. totally normal with soot they say xD

It's not.a light that comes on. It's a written message that comes up in the info screen between the speedo and rpm dials.

Had mine serviced on the 19th, been watching the burns on Torque but no msg on the dash. Burns are a lot quicker though went down 60% in 5 k's at 80 kph.

Any chance you could post up a pic from the dash next time, maybe an option your dealer enabled.

The "custom mode" message seems like a logical thing to have on all hiluxs!

It does, I've no idea why you wouldn't want it displaying.
Mine goes in for a routine service on Friday, I'll ask about it then.

I received the same letter from Toyota.
Its booked in today to get a check over + firmware upgrade.
I also requested that i want the display to show when its doing a burn.

I've got 30k on the clock and the only issue so far is some blue smoke while its doing a burn

I took mine in today for a service and asked for the ECU update, which was duly done. But the service staff had no idea how to set the custom mode to enable the dash display.

Very disappointing given that they are the largest Toyota dealer in South Australia...

what a bunch of twits , there is a Toyota helpdesk they can call for any info they need.

Picked mine up Friday arvo, The dealer said they completed a deep burn what ever that means, and updated the firmware.
Also they said the dash should show when doing a burn will see. other then that they said all looks good.

Fuel usage is still the same at 10.5 cant get it any lower.

X2. virtually the same exactly as you stated word for word, fuel usage 90% of time at 10 .5 Lt /100km may be only at 10 % of the time have seen it drop to 9.5 Lt /100 km. one interesting point when I got it back it was showing 45 Lt / 100 km but it did drop back to normal after driving 30 km, mine is a manual also.

Hahaha these dealers have no idea, mine had 99LT/100km when i picked it up however i did a manual reset, after getting on the highway.
Then it started to come down, got all the way to 6.8Lt/100km i got excited for a second, then back up to 10.5Lt
Doesn't matter how much i baby the car or even in eco mode cant get it under 10.5Lt
Will wait and see if the message displays when doing a burn.

I really want to bite the bullet and do the dpf delete, only matter of time.
