G'day all. So my brand new extra cab sr hilux went in for it's first service yesterday. The complementary one month service with 2300kms on the clock. On my way to town( I live on a farm 165km from the dealership). The ute started a dpf regeneration and then the check engine light came on along with the collision sensor fault light. I pulled over and rang the dealership and told them about it. They said it was probably that the collision sensor needed calibration. When I went to pick it up from the service centre at the agreed time the technician came out and told me that I couldn't drive it home and that the DPF had got to hot as a result of overfuleing and the injectors have to be replaced as they are faulty. They are not hardened properly apparently. I am not sure if the DPF is getting replaced as well as I am waiting on a email about what parts are being replaced. I will update when I know more. I am not very happy at all. I have been provided with a loan car at least. To say I am disappointed after waiting 8 months to get the ute is a massive understatement. Luckily I kept the old one.
I love my ute but not as much as my dashound does!!
I just put a 3 inch exhaust on the ute, now the D4D sounds like a V4!!!

Something else to note. I am sure that the DPF didn't burn off untill 1400kms on the knocker. If it did before then I didn't notice it which I think is unlikely as the message on the cluster is pretty hard to miss. This is the first DPF equipped car,ute whatever I have owned so I was not really sure what to expect as far as would I be notified when burn offs happen. I should have asked more about it at pick up I guess. After the 1400km burn off it then did another 3 in 300 kms ( I did a 390km trip that day) In hindsight I should have called the dealer then but I really didn't know if that was normal for a new car or not, also it was a Sunday. Please feel free to ask questions.

I have never noticed burns in my euro cars fitted with DPFs. I have to run a scan gauge to see it happening.

In fleet toyos that I drive that have dpfs, the dpf experience is much the same. While this thread notes that a few people have had problems, and I've seen examples of white smoke on the road, when the dpfs are running well you dont notice them... 1400kms is probably about right for the first burn.

Thanks hiluxxury, I have just talked to the service manager and have been told that the parts will be in on Monday and I might get it back Tuesday. This is better than I thought. They are going to replace all 5 injectors and the DPF. They are saying that it is the injectors that are at fault. I will say that so far I am happy enough with the dealer response. It will be interesting to see if the ute is much different to drive when I get it back. I really really hope that this is the last problem I have with it.

...1400 km from burn to burn? Never. But we also have Adblue......
Mine does it from 80 to 250 km max. up to now, first after 250 km.
80 km only city driving and 250 mainly only highway driving.
Smoke I had only the first time, now I sometimes can smell it
Cheers, Raimund

Hilux does burn approx every 250 kms.
Longest distance between burns I had it was 280kms.

Right so I picked the ute back up on Wednesday. It seems to go a little better than it did originally. A little more power a little better on fule. They replaced all 5 injectors and the DPF. The service manager told me that the issue is injectors with rusted tips because of salt air ingress during the shipping process!! This is different to what I was first told. That was that the tips are not hardened properly. It is burning off at around the 150km mark so far. I am happy with the dealer response at this point but I really hope it doesn't happen again. I also hope that this is not a wide spread problem. I will give an update at the 10000km mark.

Note you should have a 10 year warranty on the DPF and injector replacement - the scale of the issue is such that Toyota have offered this, presumably to protect their reputation. I got mine in writing, in correspondence dated 31 Auust 2020.
