Power loss under higher load

G'day guys,

Awhile back I took my 4.5m tinny up to tinaroo in FNQ and the hilux struggled towing it over the range. 3rd gear was fine and would rev all the way out but when id grab 4th it would loose all its go and I'd be back down into 3rd and just have to take it as it was.

Last week I had the same issue coming over the Coonabarabran range and was just as a ute with about 250kg on the tray. Was going fine in 3rd (3500rpm) overtaking a truck then grabbed 4th and lost everything and struggled to build rpm and gain speed.

Does anyone else have this issue? Only happens on steeper hills/higher loads on the engine.
I've had the injectors replaced but I'm not getting same economy as I used to on average 100km per tank less. Possible issue with the injectors not tuned?

I put about 800 kg worth of concrete blocks in the back of my 2016 SR5 (manual 2.8D) went from Sydney up the coast about 2 hrs. 6th gear mostly with Cruise control on, went to 5th a few times due to traffic etc. Would pull strongly up hills and if I needed to overtake.

Might be worth getting checked at Toyota?

Cheers for the reply John, unfortunately our Toyota in Townsville recently burnt down and not sure if they operational again. I have contacted a dyno mob to see if they can find the issue on the dyno.

Sounds like the new luxy is as good as ever. Is yours an auto or manual?
