No idea. Or well it does stop when i get it up to a bit higher revs when standing still also, It happends maybe between 1-1,5k rpm or such.

As SD says it sounds normal for a deisel engine.
If your feedback values are good dont worry
You will know if theres something really wrong... some report rattles that turn into sounds of sledge hammers hitting anvils

Rough idle/vibration at idle

Postby Wadeo on Wed, 24 Jan 2018 7:27 +0000

I have a 2016 sr5 auto which I have loved up untill I fitted a bull bar which magnified a vibration I never really payed attention 2, car has been to Toyota many of time with no solutions.
I have a lift kit with diff drop and UCA's and all done properly and has been checked over by many people including myself.
How ever the vibration is there when in park/neutral at a complete stand still and is worse if you hold revs to 1000-1100rpm.
Have removed bull bar but still have a rough idle but it's atleast half of what it is with bull bar on.

I have had issues with dpf blocking and being replaced I'm waiting on aftermarket brakes to show up as I'm sick to death of the factory ones needing machining and making the car feel as tho it's going to shake itself apart when braking.
I'm at a loss and can only think maybe a tune and dpf delete will help free up the engine and remove the rough idle feeling because I'm close to trading it in on another car as I drive it every day as a tradie and sick of hearing from Toyota it's normal.

Any ideas thoughts or help is much appreciated TIA

Wadeo - the vibration does not sound normal. Have you taken it to another dealer for 2nd opinion?
I drive a 2016 SR auto with a bull bar for work - no vibration at all.

One member on this thread got injectors replaced. Have you seen inj feedback values?

Did your dealer replace the DPF? If so, did the prolem momentarily resolve?

I see that this happens in neutral however there is a driveshaft issue. Has the dealer looked at that?

Have you had the auto trans software update applied?

Deadly beast I have been to 2 different dealers and neither of them want anything to do with it, they say my trans software is up to date and mentioned tail shaft issue all are fine, the dpf was replaced before bullbar went on and I haven't seen it do a burn in the last 20k kms

My old man has a Hilux the same without a bull bar and doesn't have the issue, 2 mates of mine have ironman bull bars with no issues either

The vibration is halved when I remove the bull bar and also when the car is stationary which makes me think it's something to do with the way the engine is running as engine and gear box mounts all seem fine even tho they have a fair bit of flex in them

Sounds like you have tried all above avenues
You might best get opinion of an independant deisel specialist

I also have the same symptoms as wadeo. I just had a ARB summit bullbar installed 2 weeks ago now I have a vibration very noticeable at idle in neutral or in drive. Mine is a 2016 sr auto.

Its like the bullbar is making the vibration resonate through the car.

My 1GDFTV (not a Hilux) is also suffering from this rattle which is heard around 2000RPM and seems to vanish around 2300RPM. All these days and till I saw this thread i thought it was because I am running a chip on it, but reading about this issue in so many 1GD Hiluxes I realise that I have company. It has run 32000KMs.

Few things I noticed:
1) It rattles loudly when the engine is in D mode and accelerating past 2000RPM
2) if i shift to S and hold a lower gear and accelerate the rattle is minimal
3) if i hold a higher gear and accelerate the rattle is loud as in D
4) i have unichip and if i increase the injector duration the rattle is minimised
5) If i extend it further there is no rattle at all

Any updates from Toyota regarding this? Is it a bug or do we live with this feature?

I will use some 2SO and see if there is any difference. Will add 4ml per liter of Diesel.

Update to the issue I posted above. Don't depend on toyota to fix it and the dealer folks are almost clueless because they have not come across this issue before. Spent one full day at the dealer yesterday.

Solution is simple. Do the pilot injection quantity learning (this is what I did and not learning detail) and it fixed itself. Now there is no rattle sounds like new and the throttle response is also good. I did this with techstream and I believe the same can be done by scan tools like Gscan and launch.

Took the vehicle to the Toyota this morning and showed it to them ;)

Also note that if the injector/ecm/engine is replaced it is not enough that the compensation codes are entered. Pilot quantity learning has to be done, this is as per workshop manual.

hello, has your problem been solved, because I have the same problem, and no garage can find it. Thank you.

I have a Hilux Revo 2GDFTV bought in 2017, this problem appeared at 45000 km, and no garage finds the problem. I learned the pilot values, and no improvement.
