The software will never replace mechanical wear, if there has been a problem. All the software can do is control the situation better. TMC will have to come up with a firmware update for this problem.
This problem is even worse in the 2GD-FTV vehicles.
An injector learn will not fix mechanical wear if this has occurred. It will mask it and the problem will end up a worse one. Just remember that. You need to replace the injectors if they are worn.
Denso Australia has now run out of injectors, and there is none in the country. I think, Cornell's were the last to have some.
The normal range comment. Say on the 1KDs, the range on the feedback for the injectors is -3.0mm3 to 3.0mm3. If you are over 2.4mm3 any way, especially -2.4mm3, which is over fuelling, you should think about changing out those injectors. But that's still in range, right. I use the 1KD thing as an example because most people know about this situation, now.
I feel sorry for you all, I do.

This is exactly why I never run out and buy a new brand new model of anything! I've been in the motorcycle industry for a long time now and I think the car industry is no different. Whenever you have a brand new model (and I mean where everything is new from the ground up especially with engines!) You're going to see a few bugs in the system! Always give them a year or two to sort out the issues before you race out and buy the latest thing. Now a lot of people just gotta have the latest and greatest version of something and if it wasn't for those people buying the new product then the issues would never get fixed so to those people, I salute you for you bravery and service! Sorry lads, rant over!

Well I'm glad it's just not my car making this rattle sound! I was feeling like I got a dud! But now I read this imessage not alone and maybe it's just a falt they need to workout. I will take mine backk and ask them about this I will also ask to drive another demo to listen out for it. Keep you posted.

Well i didn't have a choice, the company i worked for ditched my old Hilux and gave me a new one. Anyways the injectors are now quiet as. And running very smooth, so if anyone has any ideas why it suddenly got noisier straight after a DPF?

Am going to get Toyota to check it out.

Have the same thing, from the same location. Im probably just going to ignore it. Know people that have had dashboard pulled apart in new cars to find a rattle, only to have more rattles once the dealer is finished.

Time. Yes, time.
You know TMC were developing this engine (1GD-FTV and 2GD-FTV) as far back as 2008.

comms1 wrote:Hi Does anybody with the latest Hilux experience loud injector rattle between around 2200-2800 RPM?

I've recently bought my first Hilux (2.8 Auto - done 4000km's) and I find the injector rattle noise is really bad. Its noticable when warming up from cold and I get that, but once its running fully hot it doesnt go away. No rattle when the engine is under no stress and low rpm but when under even light accelerating throttle between around 2200-2800 rpm the rattle becomes constant, very noticable when climbing any hills when the revs increase into that RPM range.

Mine has this EXACT issue at the same RPM range, but has only today just ticked over 1000kms on the ODO, started at around 750-800km mark! I spoke to the local Toyota dealer who just said "well we took the demo model for a drive and it does it too so it must be normal". Not exactly the answer I was looking for! Any advice on where to start with this? Do I try and get new injectors under warranty, or just leave it and see if it disappears as some others have found?

Unsure whether the rattle is due to the injector but I've had a rattle in the dash since the ute was purchased in February. Have taken it in 3 times and they have found no solution. Toyota recently removed and replaced a faulty knee airbag which they assumed was causing the rattle but have not succeeded in rectifying the issue. Very annoying rattle in dash and recently the air-conditioning has begun to whilst on low. Only 16000 kms on the clock. Has anybody found any solution to this? Beyond frustrating wasting time taking it in.

I've also had a rattle/ buzz that I thought was coming from the dash. Only seems to make the sound at certain revs when under load or certain songs that have the necessary base note. Yours may be different but I've just eliminated mine. I could have sworn it was coming from the dash but after sitting in the garage with the engine off and constantly playing the same section of song over and over and listening from different spots in the cab it turned out to be the plastic cover that sits next to the DAB Arial at the top of the windscreen. I've just pulled it gently away which has solved the problem for now, but I may have to slip a small cushion of some sort in between the screen and cover if the bastard noise returns.
Hope this helps some one keep their sanity.

My 2015 2.8L demo that had 5200k when purchased 6 weeks ago from the Toyota dealership i work for. Was fine nice and quiet engine up until 1st service was done at 5500k since then has a engine rattle (sounds like a rattly tappet)but sounds bottom end to me. Doesnt matter if 1st start up or engine at operating temperature its there from idle up to 1500 rpm ? I have listened to every other new one we have & some used ones that have been serviced through workshop none of them have this engine rattle. I keep complaining to the service manager about it. Checked injectors & said they are within spec & did a injector relearn thing on it. Had nil effect. Very frustrated that he seems in no hurry at all to find the cause and fix it. I didnt pay $54,000 to have a rattly engine. I plan discussing with General Manager and if that doesnt get anything happening ? It will be a formal complaint to Toyota Australia.

Hmmm.......Please use Flashlube Diesel Conditioner in these vehicles. It will up the fuel quality, cetane. It also helps lubricate the injectors. Two main fuels to use. BP Ultimate Diesel and Caltex Vortex Premium Diesel.
These vehicles are designed around the 50+ cetane European standard. Same as the KUN26 models.
