If it was design flaws we would all be having the same issues. I've done 26k with no issues at all..just go about your business like it isn't even there. No need to let it sit there and idle for 2 hours. Your case seems to be a little different..sounds like it isn't getting up to temp because of the faulty injector. They need to replace.

So some blokes seem to be having a great run - no dramas
Others are having continual regen issues, incomplete burns, fouled injector and warning lights

On another thread some dealers are using, cough, genuine Toyota oil while others are using Valvoline...

My Hilux tends to idle at about 900 warm. would that be considered normal or is it doing a DPF burn?

DPF burn is 1200+ rpm, not 900. When it's doing a "idle up" DPF regeneration you will notice that when you pull up to a stop the idle stays normal for around 10-15 seconds and only then does it rise to 1200+.

On the oil front, it has to be the expensive light ash oil doesn't it?

I know wifey's twin turbo diesel is sensitive to oil else the DPF system goes bad.

My hilux is back at Toyota today, they have a new filter coming out which they will fit and then do a reflash but the reflash won't be available until mid December. Toyota wants to clean the filter with an additive now to keep it running smoothly until then. Hopefully this will be the solution for those of us who are having problems.

I have had a Toyota software upgrade in mine and the burn still runs for around 40 minutes

Mine seems to have settled down now its done a few Kms I'm on about 10k If you are doing slow or short runs it will have to make the dpf hot by running the regen program longer, driving faster or longer runs it will burn itself clean without you noticing ...

I have one of these new 2016 shitboxes, the dpf burn is driving me mad. i travel around 40 minutes to work every day and if a burn starts and does not complete in that time it will restart and do it all the way home again. my journey is on main roads & motorways with mainly good speed ( 70klm and above ) witch is not bad for Sydney traffic but i do travel just before the main stream traffic both ways, the local dealer said he has put in new software, that has mad 0 difference. this is my 3rd Hilux and if they don't resolve this issue it will be the last. Its back to the local dealer tomorrow for another look see, i wonder what the don't do this time .
I think they just keep your car for the day so they look like a busy dealer.

I'm hearing ya, mine gives me the shit's too, i'll be deleting it as soon as i can, being a farmer its a huge fire risk

I was having problems with mine but since the Toyota dealer did the DPF clean in mid November with some special liquid it has been working well. Now it is doing a 20 minute burn every 1000kms or so rather than the 2hr burn every second day. They were waiting for a software reflash to become available but at this stage it is working well, touch wood. Keep taking it back BigBill43$ and they should be able to sort it out for you. It took them a couple of goes to sort mine out. DPF is so frustrating when it's playing up.

Just thought I would share my experience.
The first 850kms of my SR2016 did little k's, Still got the 2008 SR and work interferes with fit out plans.
Started driving for work last week (190km Round Trip to Brisbane back to Gold Coast).
This afternoon, after getting off the M1, pulled up at the Nielson rd lights, and the revs in Idle went from about 850-900RPM up to about 1250-1300RPM.
Thanks to reading the manual, and more important than the manual, reading your experiences on this site, I was prepared, not shocked, yes it sounded like a gas turbine etc, but as Ryan1kd reported, you just go about your business.
Got home, got it into the driveway, and let it idle for about 8-10 minutes (out of curiosity), and the revs dropped back to normal. I waited another minute or so and switched it off.
This was the first time for this SR, at 2073km. Thought I would share this in case someone is wondering what the fuss is about and hasn't had one after 300-400km.
After my experience, and also losing a loved one to cancer in recent times, I do support what Gulfstream8 is saying about ensuring we regenerate and burn off the particulates.
But another side of me also (the side that has come from rural Bathurst), can understand why farmers in remote areas would prefer an ECU Remap to remove this function and get it cleaned at a service in order to prevent bush fires destroying their crops.
As a city slicker (former Country boy), happy to keep this function.

I just been told that my DPF has to been replaced, i took my sr5 in for the 20000 km service and i told the service person that i notised some times there was white smoke was comimg out the exaust when exclerating, they are replacing the dpf under warranty. He told me is was a sofware issue which they upgraded.

i understand the software update , but why the need to replace the DPF ? maybe the DPF is damaged by the bad software? or it cant be cleaned properly ?

My understanding is the dpf is damaged and needs to be replaced, if it blowing white smoke the damage is done. Im not very happy about it.

Got the new designed PDF replaced under warranty, toyota had to convert the sub-assembley axuast as well to fit the new PDF. It was a big job because the monifold gasket had to be replaced as well

thanks for the update , now to see how many of us are going to be affected by the problem.

When mine comes on it revs around 4-500 rpm but will only do a burn at stand still , if you try to move it stops and goes back to normal revs, it seams to be doing it less than it used to when it was new.
