I would like to be able to connect to the On Board Diagnostic port. What do I need to do this and will I be able to read fault codes and customise options etc?

The iPad looks good, but I would not want it there all the time. I would just like to connect a laptop when it was required.

iller,
Do you use a Laptop with the cable and do you need to pay a subscription to the Toyota techstream software?

Any advice really appreciated on this, as I would love to get it set-up to be able to read codes and change the dealer customisable features (Automatic light sensitivity etc).
Rich.

There is a website with links to a download, not going to post it here as i think it might be against the forum rules. But just google it and you should be able to find it. And i will use a laptop then.

awwricecracker wrote:So the outcome was not really a surprise. Toyota found the DPF to be 90% blocked again, they did a regenerate and couldn't find it lacking any power.
They did say the regeneration process has 3 levels of urgency. The first being what I am experiencing. The next being the dash letting you know that it needs to re-generate, the last being limp mode. Apparently the solution is to drive 65kmh for 20-30mins.
As I live in a small country town, my driving is either a couple of minutes putting around, working reasonably hard offroad in river sand or highway driving at 110 - most of the time with a tradesman trailer. I think it could be that with such low gearing on the 6sp MT and that I have larger tyres, it is not revving enough on the highway.
It is around 1600rpm at 110 and only reaches 2000rpm at 140kmh, crazy.

Get the delete done on the DPF. Being in the country if it fails it can leave you stranded and with most country places having poor to no mobile reception you can work your way around the EPA law

Its a huge risk to have a DPF when you have a property. A grass fire can turn into a bush fire, destroy other property and stock and perhaps even human life. How are you meant to feed your stock when its dry. Will be deleting the DPF for safety concerns.

I have a 2016 Fortuner and I've done 110,000 kms in it. Last week, the 1GD-FTV choked itself to death. Continous DPF regen. Thick clouds of white smoke. 20 liters/ 100 kms fuel consumption. Engine vibrating. No power. No warning lights whatsoever. No signs that the engine is failing.

After pulling the engine out this is what we found. #DPF Biscuits have melted a hole within itself.
1. Diesel fuel in the oil pan. about 1.5 liters in it.
2. EGR Blocked with tar.
3. Turbo is FUxxked.
4. Pressure sensors are FUxxked.
5. Bottom end is starting to knock.

Our work depends on heavy duty utility diesels. We've owned toyotas since the 1980's and never had issues with any of them even past selling it after 600,000 kms. With this DPF system? STAY AWAY. The DPF system will make your car disposable past 100,000 kms. In the non-DPF days, 100,000 kms for us is just break-in period.

Estimated repair costs past warranty from Toyota? $12,000-$14,000 ish... they said. FUxxk. Our work and survival out there beyond civilization depends on our diesel reliability, (charging GPS equipment, power supply to surveying equipment, communication equipment, fridge, beer cooler). I had to buy a 2015 3.0 KUN26R Non-DPF hilux with 32,000 kms from the Toyota yard while I was there. I want our team to be able to go home to their wives and children alive.

Our 2016 Fortuner? We are in a hurry to put everything back with spares in time to trade it in with a 2015 3.0 Non-DPF Prado with 40,000 kms in it.

NO MORE DPF EQUIPPED VEHICLES FOR US. Period.

TOYOTA UNBREAKABLE? pffft. MAKE IT TOYOTA DISPOSABLE. FUxxk.

What do you guys think about me purchasing a new Hilux in the new year? I live in London, so mostly stop-start traffic, but would be going on weekly motorway runs to a mall and adding regular DPF cleaner fluid to the fuel. . I really want one, but am worried about DPF problems. Do you think I can realistically run this vehicle in a city? I would very much appreciate your thoughts.

I mostly do city driving and no problems so far, just take it for a longer spin from time to time and it will be fine.

I’ve never driven in London but have in a few busy cities including Rome, Florence, Sienna, Madrid, Berlin - couldn’t think of anything worse than a large car with big blind spots. Harder to park, less nimble etc. I love my lux, but to me it’s not a city car.

Hi mate, I know its a very old post, but did you sort it out ? Mine does the same ( 2014/d4d/manual/200k), idlle up to 900rpm, and I am not sure if it s a regen or not. If I take her for a highway drive after 20min, idlles up normally back to 750rpm. but this wonder dont last more than 150km.

cheers to all

Sounds like a DPF regen to me, mines the same but around every 200 miles using Shell V-Power

I have read all the topic, and most of the guys said that for regen its 1100-1200rpm, that way I am a bit confuse.

And I have notice this morning, that my exaust it's extremly dirty of soot.

thanks
