Battery Warning light on 11.5 Volts at battery

Postby BillyGoatCountry on Sat, 20 May 2023 5:57 +0000

My 2008 Lux battery charge light came on today , fan belt is tight , voltage at the battery is down to 11.5 volts with engine running where it should be 13.5 - 13.8 Volts.

before i go and purchase a new alternator is there anything Hilux specific that could cause this ?

It should have a regulator built in to the alternator shouldnt it so there cant be a fault in anything else ?

i cant see any broken wires at the alternator connections , Its fitted with a C-TEK 250 which is not showing any error lights

Hi don't know where you are best to have a load test done that will help to tell you if it is a battery or alternator before you start spending money. Battery world more than likely do for free.
The c-tek would just not turn on as far as I know because the voltage is not there.

Just check the main (charge) wire where it's connected to the alternator. A couple of times over the years I've had that lug break through. Don't usually find it until you're driving at night. Also remember that some alternators have the reg-rect as a "bolt-on" at the back of the alternator. An auto sparky should be able to diagnose your specific issue to help you save a few coins.
