Mounting 1500w Inside Cab - Existing Dual Battery Setup

Postby Froggvox on Sun, 28 Feb 2021 7:49 +0000

Hi team,

I am looking to buy a 1500w power inverter and am seeking some advise on where to mount it.

I have a 2020 Hiliux SR5 with a red arc dual battery setup under the hood

I know that the best install is to have the battery as close to the inverter as possible, but I don’t want to move the battery.

I have a hard lid tonneau on the back so probably wouldn’t mount it into the tub.

Has anyone else installed an inverter into the cab of your hilux and if so, where did you mount it and were there any issues with the cabling of it to your dual battery, and what circuit protection did you use?

Thank you!

Your going to be looking at some pretty chunky cables to get into the cab.
What exactly are you planning to run off it?
Most 1500 watt inverters will be capable of surging to 3000 upon start up of some equipment but to be able to do that the cables need supply nearly 300 amps momentarily so off the top of my head that be 1B&S cable, probably get away with the more readily available 2B&S.
To get that into the cab you should be cutting a couple of 20mm holes and using stainless glands to keep it sealed.
Not easy cables to run about inside a cab.
