ECU swap from a Manual to Auto

Postby MrMoose on Sat, 19 Dec 2020 5:49 +0000

Hey Legends,

Does anyone know if I can use an 2008 ECU Manual Transmission Kun26R and swap it with 2007 Kun26R Automatic transmission?

Thanks.

Not sure but would it be worth considering an ecu tune with your own? That way the cost would be similar and the EGR can be switched off. Proverbial 2birds with one stone. ;)
Cheers Gipsy :D although I'm sure somebody will challenge that  even Einstein wasn't certain of his theories.

Hey Gypsy,

I'm the type of person that likes to keep things original as the way it was designed. I won't be deleting the EGR. It's there for a reason and it helps with emissions. I appreciate the suggestion but not for me :D

As for ECU tune well that might have to be an option because I'm running out of options LOL.

Cheers mate.

Ok tune without the EGR block, whichever way it would be better than the complications of a new (second hand) ecu.
But remember, that's not likely to fix the EGR problem. ;)

Might not be as easy as just plugging in a replacement.
When stock imobilisers with key sensing were introduced in the 90s thieves would just swap out the BCM and use their own key transducer. The manufacturers countered this with a handshake system where the various control modules ping eachother looking for esn's, if they werent the correct ones the whole system shuts down.
Not sure what toyota uses in the lux but I do know the central locking uses more than one ecm to varify its the correct key signal before the doors respond.
