Second battery leaking

Postby dazza609 on Sat, 02 May 2020 1:22 +0000

Hi All,

Have had issues with second battery not lasting very long before going flat only about 4 months old, have gone to change it and found it was leaking aswell, it only runs a 40l evakool drawer fridge.

What is the best way to clean up the battery acid?

Owww! Lots of fresh water and start with boiling then flush it with cool.
Cheers Gipsy :D although I'm sure somebody will challenge that  even Einstein wasn't certain of his theories.

What is the best battery people have had in there hilux, live in Darwin so it's pretty hot, the battery place think this one has gotten too hot and possibly overcharged, is connected to redarc 1225D set on A. They have given me a new battery (same as last one) supercrank DCNX120-7L SCMF 800CCA 105AH.

Not sure if I want to use this brand again if its going to leak again.

There's always going to be a faulty one. Sounds like a cell failed.

Was the second faulty one I had, although first one didn't start to leak, just stopped holding any charge. Purchased first on June last year, replaced December, now this one failed in April.

Hi dazza609
I had the same thing drop the redarc to a lower charge rate
To clean use hot water with caustic soda and scrub it make sure you scrub all the seems if you lost any paint repair it to stop rust. I changed to a Optima blue top never had a issues since 2014.

Redarc is already on A which I thought was as low as it could go?

Ok look up the charge rate for the battery you are using.
All so when the battery is all setup check the charge rate the redarc is putting out in case it is over charging. Don't have any thing turned on.

Century batteries had a bit of a history of doing that, pretty sure this isnt the first thread here about it but I thought they had it sorted.
