Postby Jilda123 on Fri, 27 Dec 2019 7:14 +0000

Hi everyone
Today my hilux head unit / sat nav has been freezing up I can’t
Even get into my sat nav and reverse camera comes on sometimes
My car has only 18,000ks on it and still under warranty but when I called Toyota
To see if they have one in stock I was told they don’t and need to order from Japan anyone
Else have this problem ???

There could be a heap of reasons bad joint/connection or the unit is faulty. I would take it to dealership to fault find being under warranty.

Or pull it out and test power supply with multimeter.

Just a guess but try the old computer fault remedy, disconnecting the battery for 5 minutes and reboot.
Cheers Gipsy :D although I'm sure somebody will challenge that  even Einstein wasn't certain of his theories.

Not sure if it helps but try this.

Turn headlights on three times while holding the Apps button for the Diagnosis check.
and the same while holding Audio button for the service menu.

Ive had the same issue in my 2015 SR5. which is more complicated as I'm now out of warranty. I took mine back to the dealer. Their solution was the the head unit wound have to be removed and sent back to Denso for diagnosis and quote for repair.
not content with that outcome, I emailed Toyota direct to express my disappointment. Toyota contacted me within 24h. They said they would investigate the issue further and have passed on the issue to Tyota warranty department.
Still waiting for a response.

Had a similar issue, but mine locked on the reverse camera - stereo still worked through the steering wheel controls etc, just could'nt use the touch screen(was weird seeing the drivers behind you in the screen as you were cruising down the road)

Took it into the dealership & they replaced it. I arrived at 830am with an issue and was out of there at 10am with a new one - had only called ahead the day before. They took a replacement out of demo truck and put it in mine. The dealer later called me about 6 weeks after to say the new one from Japan had arrived & I was welcome to come & get the one from the demo ute swapped out with the new one. Was about a year ago now but no issues since.

This was through Toyota NZ but would not of thought after sales support would be much different over the ditch.

Same people will let the car yards walk all over them.
