Firring lights on bar with adaptive cruise control

Firring lights on bar with adaptive cruise control

Postby mrt54 on Wed, 13 Nov 2019 2:29 +0000

Hi guys, can't find the info I want, was going to get a light bar fitted under the top bar of te bull bar on my Rugged, but the bar does not have brackets and they did not want to weld etc.
I know it is illegal in Qld to mount light bars on top of bullbars even if a lot of people do it and they are not really obstructive but I would prefer to do it right.
Fitting lots of light to the roof rack is ok until it rains or is dusty or smokey then it is just hopeless, so was hoping to fit something in the bullbar, but it has radar for the adaptive cruise control and pedestrian avoidance etc.
Can anyone tell me or show me where to look for the data about what spread the radar beam has? What angles it is directed at and what angles it looks at, so I can put lights on somewhere that won't block the radar.
normaly there would be a radius or degree of the beam for radar or fish finder beam etc.
Thanks.

The radar on the new lux is part of the Toyota badge in the grill. A set of driving lights doesn't affect them I can tell ya that much. I'd say as long as it has direct line of sight it should be fine. Haven't done it on a lux yet but have fitted plenty of 200series and new prados with two intensity spot lights and matching light bar bolted to the top rail of the bullbar(so three lights total) and they seem to work fine.

Cheers, might try to zip tie the light bar to the bull bar and see how it drives, if drives ok can make it proper fit, thanks.

Well I zip tied the light bar to the top bar of the lux, on the underside, and even though it covers part of the top of the badge it seems to work ok, car drives ok, and even with cruise control on the adaptive part still works, so I will make it a more permanent thing, now just got to figure the best way to bolt the brackets to the bar, rivnut underneath, or bolt right thu, or just self tapper up thru the bracket into the bar?
