Cable route from engine bay to back seat

Hi all, I’m trying to run a cable to a dual battery in the back of the dual cab. I’ve hit a bit of a brick wall and I’m wondering if anyone has some advice. So far I’ve run the cable from the backseat under the trim on the floor adjacent to the door but I’m struggling to find a route from the front passenger footwell to the engine bay. I’ve tried to pull the wheel arch guards out to get a better look but the securing tabs are being stubborn - is there a trick to getting them out? I’d have thought they’d just pull out with some pressure but I feel like I’m going to snap one they’re that tight.

Cheers, Sam

G'Day Scatter

One word 'Firewall' this is what it is designed for :)

Start in the engine bay, lots of gr8 content on this site about getting wires thru. the FW.

BTW - Dont just run 1 cable, I initially ran 3 x

Thanks mate, I should have been more specific - I’m running two heavy cables (6b&s) and the firewall grommet nipple on the main grommet is too narrow for even one of the cables. I’m wondering if anyone has an alternate route, or do I need to start cutting into the grommet?

Lift the carpet under the front seat and you'll find gromets in the floor. I've done a couple of compressors under the front passenger seat on the n80s and have run wiring and air lines through the floor there.

Just checking in here Scatter - is that a lead acid battery your installing in the back seat? You know they produce explosive gasses, right?
Can be managed, but if you didn’t know...

So passenger side fire wall grommet. Main wire harness has 2 “nipples” on it cut the tip off and run a trace wire through initially anything slippery will help pull the big wires through. Be it soapy water. Etc.

Don’t be worried they stretch.
Between those two nipples and the small grommet right against the side panel I have a total of 3 sets of 7 core wire plus 2 6mm twin cores going through and coax for the aerial.
Each of those 7 core wires are 4mm so there huge. As big or bigger then 6 B&S.
So yeah enough slippery you can get anything through.

Why so many wires.....
Linx
water pump
2 sets of cigs
Power for usb
Uhf
Compressor
And some spares for future development lol

G'Day Myralga - Gr8 write up, but his cables cannot make it thru. the firewall - notice OPs 2nd post - " two heavy cables (6b&s) " in reply to my 1st

Sorry should have made that a bit clearer.

7 x 4mm wires bundled in the additional outer sheath is bigger then a single 6 B&S cable.

You can make it. Done similar on other customer builds.

If you can’t you can always slice the grommet a little to give a bit more wiggle room.

I don’t like ‘slicing’ the grommets because they split and don’t seal any more.
A plastic knitting needle (50c from the salvos), rip the end off and tape the cable(s) inline.
Pokes a nice neat little hole and then stretches the rubber, so no tears or tears [emoji24]. Image

And spray the grommet and cable with WD40 Lithium, works a treat

Has anyone used the grommet around the bonnet release cable? It is well positioned and cables can be routed into the front or back seat areas easily.
