ELM327 ODB on 2016 2.8 Hilux

ELM327 ODB on 2016 2.8 Hilux

Postby pfieldhouse on Tue, 19 Feb 2019 8:00 +0000

I see that some members have been able to use these sort of OBD2 connectors but I am not having any luck. I have a 2016 2.8 Twin Cab and I got hold of one of those cheap ebay ELM327 adapters. I can connect to the device over Bluetooth but it doesn't seem to recognise the EMU. I have tried a few android apps including Torque with no joy.

Can anyone help me to get this up and work?

These ebay units are hit and miss. Probably best to try another. There are apps available that can test them eg elm327 identifier on google play.
I might be wrong.

You will need to connect through the app not through the Bluetooth menu on your phone. You need to go into the settings in the app and select the adapter type as BLE4.0.

And if you’re trying to connect to an iPhone over Bluetooth, you won’t have any success either.

So I downloaded elm identifier and got more red than green.

V1.0 31 Supported 12 Unsupported
V1.4b 2 Supported 5 Unsupported

few green for V1.2 and 1.3. So maybe 1.4b at the best. So much for the latest version. I assume I need at least 2.1??

So been doing a bit of searching on the old interweb thingy. I see some of the so called 2.1 scanners described as "This mini car bluetooth diagnostic scanner works on Android Torque/PC with the latest software version V2.1 and hardware Version V1.5."

So is this a 2.1 or a 1.5??? Why can't chinese just tell the truth?

For what it’s worth I use an app called Car Scanner and it works a treat with a cheap eBay plug... and I use Bluetooth on an iPhone.

Oh and I’ve also connected to the same plug using the same app on the missus android phone.

Good luck bud.

Just to clarify, I don't have a problem with connecting to the device, it is finding the ECU that is the problem.
