Android Head Unit Install.

Postby mitchnewy on Mon, 10 Dec 2018 4:38 +0000

Hi,

I'm wondering if anyone has installed an aftermarket android headunit? I've removed the current SR5 factory unit and now looking for android based alternatives. There are a number on ebay and Aliexpress for approx $600. Namely Dasaita and Belsee brands are popular.

See Hilux Revo installs in Thailand at:

I'm ready to purchase but I need some advice on what wiring harness I need to get.

Thanks,
Mitch.

Mitch

I did this to my Fortuner recently. I bought a unit with "plug and play" harness. That was anything but plug and play. If you are a little handy with wiring diagrams it can be sorted provided the plugs match up. Mine got sorted after 3 attempts with Chinese crowd after I told them where they are mis-wiring the loom.
Im mostly happy with the functionality of the unit and how i can program steering wheel buttons. Camera, audio etc works fine, although its far from OEM integration for software integration. Build + fit is perfect.

I just fitted the latest version S200 to my SR that I got locally through digoptions in Melbourne. Their Hilux Gen 8 version comes with an adapter harness to suit. I found the harness itself needed some tweaks to be truly plug and play, they have local support who now have the details and you could do it yourself if you were handy.

Otherwise in the end it bolted straight in and I didn't need to touch any vehicle wiring, all plugs were compatible. I have a background noise issue that they are working on but otherwise works well.

For anything else from overseas I would be very carefully checking out all the wiring against the Toyota diagrams, and be extra careful if you source the adapter harness elsewhere as the head units may not have the same connectors ...and even if they do the signal pinouts in the connectors may not be the same and information on the head unit connections seems to be extremely scarce.

Anyone who has installed the Dasaita head unit could give any feedback? I am not sure if the original rear view camera would work with the head unit.

I threw an Alpine x802d-u (https://www.alpine.com.au/shop/navigati ... s/x802d-u/) into mine, was $2800 when I got it, but worth every cent. Comes with three different mapping programs and the sound is just simply amazing!

That's the model I want to install, especially it has HEMA maps pre installed.
Does it interact with the display on the instrument cluster?
