Additional Reversing lights

Hi All,

I'm in the process of adding some backwards light. The intention is to mount a small led light bar under the rear step next to the tow ball.

Two questions;

- does the plastic around the back step just unclip or is it a Toyota special and require a left handed screw driver and lots of curse words

- when wiring in the light, whats the best way to supply power only when the reversing lights are active? I would imagine a simple splice is not advisable. New wire and relay from the engine bay or is there a simple fix?

Cheers All!

my mate just wired my lightforce rok 20's into the reverse loom, i think for the trailer plug. and i found a few well positioned holes in the under side of the bumper for the lights to bolt into.... but the bumper didnt need to come apart to do that.

the plasitc does unclip but its a bit of a pain.... i pulled mine apart to powder coat the chrome bumper pieces black.... think i only damaged 1 clip, there are plenty of clips so it wasn't an issue

will try and get a pic over the weekend

I have mine hooked off of my Aux battery manually switched, that way they aren't coming on in the day when reversing, also when in town so I am not blinding anyone :)

You can have a manual switch and also feed off the reverse signal if you want them on automatically when you select rev and switched. Just throw a diode between the feed from rev signal.

I also popped in some Led Bulbs for the reverse which are "really" bright so I hardly use my work lights when reversing.

I put light force rok9s? The tiny little Led ones in behind the chrome bumper sections.
Just drilled a couple holes to let the light through.
At a quick glance they look like parking sensors.
I also had my chrome sections off to plasti dip them black.
As far as wiring they are through a relay and controlled through my linx system.
The same circuit also controls two more lights in the left and right of the canopy so they all create a full camp light set up on demand.

Those 6" light bars from the 4wd Supacentre work an absolute treat for what you're after. Got it on a separate switch naturally. I have noticed a distinct lack of tailgating also...

Classis Sparksy, where did you get the actual switch from.

Wouldn't it be interesting if the 'tailgater' was an unmarked copper when you click the bird?

"Coppers" should know better than to tailgate. I do like that switch but!

If it’s been done correctly and rev has been picked up it will be in pin no 2. ( the black wire). Trailer wiring is standard so it is universal (at least for the most part in NSW)

The light is handy to have on there when your hitching at night so i rigged up to aux battery so I don't have to leave the car in reverse to go out back to hitch up and risk being road kill by my own rig

Hi,

Google, Hayman Reese LED Hitch Step.

I have it on my Hilux Workmate, Plug & Play.

Love it.

Does anyone know what amps the trailer loom supports?
It's a genuine one, dealer installed.

at a rough guess it would be about 4 amps per circuit. The factory wiring , before the loom , going to the back of the car is rated at 2amps . Ive pulled a trailer module apart and the circuit board didnt look that beefy so 4A would be the maximum i would draw off it.
Its good practice to use a relay for anything else anyway , just for isolation purposes.
