Genuine Toyota/ warn winch for premium steel bull bar 2016 s

Hi i am new to this i joined today hoping to get some answers. i have a 2016 hilux sr5 with a genuine steel bullbar. i passed on the warn winch when i brought car 6 months ago but now i want a winch. i am tossing up between the heavy duty one with wire cable and the light weight synthetic rope model. Can anyone tell me which is better i cant find details online as to the weight of each model? Thanks in advance

Make sure you look around for winches, don't just go with a Warn because that's what Toyota offer. Plenty of alternatives of equal or higher quality for cheaper.

In terms of steel vs synthetic ropes, steel is cheaper, will be a bit over 10kg heavier although it's a bit more robust in that it won't cut on rocks like the synthetic, isn't affected by heat etc.

The negatives are pretty clear, more weight on the car, heavier to maneuver, need to use gloves when operating the rope to prevent splinters from burrs off the cable.

toyota gave got a winch made by warn specially for them. they have changed lots of things to make Toyota happy and allow them to use them as genuine. you cant buy these winches except through toyota.

Hope they don't come with the same warn ... If you drive through a river crossing you void your warranty, warranty.

Im sure if they made them for Toyota they would've been outsourced again by warn, made in China and had even more corners cut than a proper warn winch. By today's standards and whats on the market now, warn are rubbish. They probably just want you to use their dodgy winch cos its not strong enough to pull their crappy bullbar off! [emoji6]

Synthetic rope is safer in terms of recoil if it, or an anchor, breaks. Also won't cut your hands.
In the end it depends what you'll be using it for. If it's just for the occasional recovery I'd take the safety of synthetic. You need to be careful about which winches you can put synthetic rope on... some with overheat it with their brakes. Also if you get a synthetic rope it needs to be spooled properly (under proper tension) or it will ruin it quickly!

No problem at all, if you do look at other brands I'll suggest looking at runva and smittybilt. Both excellent warranties and quality products.

I have the bullbar and the Warn Winch from the factory. I've used on four different occasions and it HASN"T pulled the bar off the car. It saved my arse.

Got my winch and must say i am very impressed great design by toyota and warn. very neat and works great only thing i dont like is i cant get a wireless remote for it. The plug they use i have never seen

Warn do make a wire in wireless remote system which would work on just about any winch I'd say.

they plug and play winch remote doesn't fit my fitting. i went to AARB and they have never seen anything like it. I emailed Warn Australia they said the only way is to tap into the wiring and hardwire one. but plug and play no go.

Wireless winch remotes absolutely suck! There is always a delay to on and same delay to off. If you wind in you need to get used to it otherwise bad things can happen, like stopping just before your winching tree falls over and it runs on a bit then... boom it's on ya bonnet.
