Heated seats in Gen8

Heated seats in Gen8

Postby RustyCat on Sun, 11 Jun 2017 4:05 +0000

Just finished installing Ebay seat heating kit in 2016 Hilux SR5 dual cab three weeks ago. This has the leather interior. Was a bit nervous about removing the seat coverings. Damn hog clips. But took lots of phone pics as I went. Put it back together using zip ties where the hog clips were a pain to reinstall. Wear gloves. Lots of sharp bits in there. Disconnect battery before removing seats or mucking about with seat airbag plugs. Be supercareful manhandling the seats out if the cab. sharp base conponents make it easy to scratch trim.
Fitted switches left and right just below shift assembly.
They work really well. Only need them for 15 minutes or so in the morning or when getting a bit stiff on a long drive. All up cost was about $70 including fuse jack from Jaycar. Did take me a full weekend to do two seats though!
Seen auto trimmers quoting $450 a seat for this.

Had anyone else had experience with installing heater seats in 14-15 model hilux? Mine has the factory leather seats and in winter it can be a bit cold to get into. I researched and tried to get a hold of the original Toyota ones but no such luck
cheers

I will have to have a look for that fuse location Flip9. Never thought of that.
I did quite a bit of research and as far as I could tell the Chinese eBay ones were the same as the factory ones in terms of construction. Work the same as the ones in wifeys Kluger. Had em on this morning. Very civilised.

On the Gen7 the S-HTR fuse is located on the passenger kick panel

Its Ignition switched. I'm currently using it to power my dashcam and 12v sockets.

I haven't actually tried following the pink wire to see where it terminates.

Looking at the Gen8 schematics it should be there as well.

Toyota has a habit of including the circuitry for optional accessories.
