Head Unit Wiring & Steering Wheel Controls

Head Unit Wiring & Steering Wheel Controls

Postby doin.it.in.the.mud on Thu, 27 Apr 2017 6:24 +0000

Does anyone have a wiring diagram for the POS factory head unit, or know what's what back there? I'm on the verge of going aftermarket but would like to know if this can be done and the instrument cluster display (SR) and steering wheel controls retained. Seems like there's something unnecessarily complex in the way this is wired.

Also are others having issues with Toyotalink on Android since the latest phone software upgrade? I have a Galaxy S7 and it stopped working the day the mandatory update was pushed out.

I have had my head unit out and from memory, it uses standard Toyota connectors. There is usually a plug for power/front speakers, a plug for rear speakers, a plug for steering wheel controls/speed pickup, a plug for the radio antenna. Mine being an SR5 also has a plug for the digital antenna and a plug for the GPS antenna. I can't remember where the cable for the instrument cluster is connected. I would imagine that this is some kind of proprietary CANbus signal and may not be possible for an aftermarket unit to replicate.
What version of Android are you running?

yes it is Canbus and the reverse camera takes 5v not 12v so whatever unit you fit needs to have a converter for that too.

Thanks fellas. Android version 7 on a Galaxy 7. Seems a ton of other people on the google playstore complaining about the same compatibility problem post-update.
