ODB2 & guage Lovers - check this

Good point will check it in morning.

Yeah it really
Spiked when I did the whole stand on brakes and throttle trick = big load on the drivetrain. Probably Moreso than sandy soft beach work , at least wheels can spin in that scenario.

Next beach trip will be interesting anyway !

Do your transmission a favour and add a cooler, it is the first thing I do with any auto I own.
And change the oil now and then as well if yours is a transmission that Toyota say never needs changing.

I have a scangauge unit, on the torque heat mine got up to 116c on a trip to Adelaide driving in D on cruise at 110kmh. ATF was up to 106c.
SR 2016 2.8 auto, with steel tray empty vehicle, no trailer.

On way home with 6x4 trailer with total load about 700 to 800kg. TQC ran at about 86c and ATF about 83c.
Left Port Augusta about 8:30pm TQC about 76c and ATF 72c. Out side was mid 20c.
All on cruise as before but trans was in manual 5.

Nice one! so what do you think was the cause of it getting to 116 on that first drive? If anything i'd have thought towing would be the big one.

I tend to leave mine in 4 (no over drive) around town until on prope rhighways... just because in D I find she often drops into over drive a bit too soon and is forever kicking back to 4th.

One way to check the accuracy of the equation is to check the temps in the morning when the car is dead cold. The ATF temp should just be above the ambient temp.

Havent had time to check mine today, its been pouring all day.

26c nominal on a 26c morning, so yep shes' accurate.

Have also added some new gauges

Went for a 10 minute drive to the shops this morning, only got to about 60c. The startup temp matched ambient as well.

Image

Could have sworn the oil temp used to work....

Was going to ask about that. Apparently 1grfe doesn't have an oil temp sensor!? Doesn't an engine *need* one?

It must have worked on my other car.

I just checked the manual and theres no oil temp sensor, just a water temp sensor in the block.

Image

I know the oil pressure sensor is only an ON/OFF switch for the warning light, theres no actual readout.

Will need gauges and a sandwich plate to get oil press and temp

This is the first long trip away since had scan gauge set for trans temp.
Around the district it has only got up to about 70c.
Took the trailer to Adelaide with the Prado, left it down there with the machine that needed a repair. Picked it back up with Hilux.
I was surprised with the 116c degree, but deliberately left it in D to see what it would do. If it got to 120c I was going to go back to manual adjusting. Other trips away I didnt have the scan gauge set up. Vehicle only has 4,500 km on the speedo.
Same here on the towing, I did not even try it in D after the other temps

Cool. Suprising that there's no factory oil temp and pressure monitor. I guess they're figuring other things will ping a failure well before those things eventaute.

ok confused - happens often :-)
So is Fusion app working with then Gen 8's? If so I'm off to ebay to get an Bluetooth ODB2 dongle and download the app.

Twice I've ended up in limp mode with a P0141 and more serious a P2006 code (Intake Manifold Runner Control Stuck Closed) - The dealer still hasn't found the cause of the P2006 and basically has said I have to "wait until it happens again" which is a bit crap.

Mines a 2007 1grfe v6 mate so no idea on the gen8 but all the metrics I've posted so far are standard pae and come up in the fusion app yes.

Only the transmission temps required a manual pid and equation as outlined above (for the a750 5spd auto)

See how you go.

Bugger about the codes. You can view and reset codes yourself with just about any obd app as far as I know.

So i went for a long drive. ATF got to about 80c and TC got to 90c

You can watch the TC temps shoot up and then go down when its locked up.

Nice one. I did a beach weekend last weekend , never saw tranny or Tc fluid go over about 85c which was good.

Well if you have an egt that means you've got diesel yeah ?

Cats are for the v6 1grfe (which I have)

was that for me or the poster above?

I know diesels have (or can have) cats too, i mean to say though that in my setup it's for the 1grfe so probably different OBD codes and such (was writing from ipad). Plus the cat setup in OBD is per bank (aka v6 banks).
