Hi has anyone any knowledge of weather the fortuner paddle shift can be retro fitted to hilux.

The steering wheel will with attached paddles need to be obtained from fortuner

I'm more interested in knowing if the wiring is already in the hilux and it's a simple plug n play scenario

Any info is greatly appreciated

Personally I would bother, paddles are a bit of a wank never used them on any car I have had them, they are interesting for about the first 2 minutes. The Hilux has a good sports mode manual shift with the stick I just use that when I want to ramp things up a little.

Yes its possible, I did it on my Innova which is basically another IMV platform vehicle like the fortuner and hilux using same engines. You need the fortuner steering wheel back cover, paddles two small screws and some wire. And yes three terminal pigtails to lead the wire out of the clockspring connector. Once done it works just like in the new automatic fortuner.

Yes it is possible but not plug n play. The pins aren't on the column side of the spiral cable but I retrofitted pins and it works well and introduces a new drive mode. In sport mode the gears shift at high rpm. If you're in D and toggle a paddle it goes to D4 (3,2 etc) and you can shift up at lower rpm

Sports mode in a 4WD?
If you want a sports car then buy one.

They work well on sand but its another bling gadget if you ask me.

i have a hilux and my wife has a fortuner, initially i wasn't a fan of the paddles, but i do like them now.
I'm not saying its not bling or not a gimmick, but i have found times when they are useful. but for me, it's not "sports mode" is slow mode.
you can shift gears without moving the gear selector into "sports" mode so it's really handy to downshift and use the engine to slow the car down. While in normal "D" mode, if your come to a stop whilst using engine breaking (plus the brakes), so you come to a stop in 1st or 2nd gear on the dash. The gear selection on the dash changes back to "D" and everything is back to normal when you take off.
alternatively if your driving along in a slow moving traffic jam, ill typically use the paddles to keep the car in 1st or 2nd, when the jam clears you can just change up to 6th and the gear shown in the dash will change back to "D". If the jam is stop/start this wont work cause it will reset every time you stop so you stick it in "sports" mode to keep the car in 1st even if you stop (just like you would do in the hilux).

Yeah, i have seen them put to good use in vehicles that have them standard but for me its something I wouldn't use much. I drive a lot of modern autos through work and I find that autos these days can be told what to do through throttle and brake inputs... well, enough for me anyway. I do note they provide a better response than the stick.

I'll probably buy a fortuner next so my mind may change if the programming is much like the prado and 200.

Could you elaborate a bit? When you say "The pins aren't on the column side of the spiral cable" exactly what do you mean?
