How to disable sr5 navigation safety lockout

Postby HBlaz on Tue, 27 Dec 2016 12:00 +0000

Hi everyone, just wondering if anybody has worked out how to disable the safety lockout feature on the standard 2016 sr5 navigation unit? It gets pretty frustrating when you cant press certain buttons while the car is in motion.

That's an easy one mate, pull over.

Did you ever stop to wonder why they put that important safety feature in the vehicle in the first place.

it can be done , but its a safety feature as has been mentioned. If you get desparate and really need to do it , download the wiring diagrams from the Toyota website , find the speed sense wire ( SPD ) going from the speedo to the audio unit , and cut that. Violet color , pin 7 at head unit , pin 19 at speedo. Use this mod at your own risk.

I'd suggest not to give anyone pointers on the issue considering the amount of deaths on Australian roads caused by inattention.

It's just toyotas nannying ways. The Holden navs can be used underway as can any of the portable ones. I disconnected the one on my gen7. And was so much better. Would be very interested to see how to do it on the new one

Not sure with the Hilux but I know with the 200 series you can buy aftermarket modules that plug in and sort all that stuff out. I haven't bothered, I just pull over and do it.

Techstream can also change door chimes on the 200. Have a look at custom settings/audio warnings.

I'm keen to hear from anyone that has done this too. Such a pain to pull over so a passenger can use the system!!

I just use my phone with navigation , unless the minister of war and finances is in the car I then use the navigation in the head unit... just ads a few more minutes onto the trip (putting in the info)

I have noticed some differences between using my iPhone navigation to the navigation in my car on the head unit.
At some points they tell me to take different turns

Has anyone else noticed this ??

Yup. I wish the passenger seat belt detection could be used to allow Nav input whilst driving. No passenger, no input is fine.

There is a module for sale from AdvancedICE that allows the lockout to be disabled, $399 though!
