Running an Anderson Plug in the rear tub

Running an Anderson Plug in the rear tub

Postby Gatti on Sat, 10 Dec 2016 1:28 +0000

Hi guys,

I'm expecting my new SR5 to be delivered next week and want to sort out a couple of things quickly ready for a trip away at Christmas.

I want to run an Anderson Plug into the rear tub so I can charge my Bainztech Power Top to run my fridge etc, then another one to the tow bar to charge the battery in my Camper Trailer.

What is the best way to get the cable into the rear tub?

Run it down through the chassis rail and come up through your rear tail light

Thanks

What Senrib said +1 - this is what I did a few years ago on my '12 & had no problems.

Why are these 'Bainztech Power Top' so expensive ???

$682 -> https://www.baintech.com.au/powertoppc

I use my tub for carting wood , motorbikes, etc and wanted to bring the Anderson plug to an area where it would be reasonably well protected and still be handy to plug into and charge a second battery for camping.
Ran mine along the chassis rail then up through the wheel arch.
Works great for me.

Thanks guys there's a couple of good options there.

In regards to the Power Top, yes they are quite expensive but the price does include the battery.

I had a dual system in my last car, but the new one is a business vehicle so I will be changing it over every few years so I want to set it up so I can easily remove it and put it in the next car.

I ended up using 4B&S. A bit of overkill, but certainly no voltage drop to the rear.

Also, did you guys just run the cable for the Anderson Plug straight off the main battery, or is there a better place to do it from?

I'm looking at doing this exact same setup.
Do you have and fuses running to the battery? Are you running just the one positive to the tub and grounding on the chassis?
Cheers.

G'Day CoastalPainting

If you are going to run one cable, why not run 2 x cables ???

You should fuse at the battery so all the 'stuff' is in one place.

Just my 2cs worth & what I have always done.

I ran the main thick wire from second battery, both +ve & -ve, and then feed the smaller wires for cig plug off the main wire at the back

I have a fuse at the battery for this circuit

Hey Incman. That's a tidy job. I'm hoping to do the same thing. Did you find you have enough room behind the tub liner for the 12V sockets? Or was it a really tight fit to get that neat flush mount finish? Thanks!
