ciggy lighter is accessories feed , not via ignition.

Use a piggyback fuse in the fuse panel under the glovebox.
Plenty of ignition signals in there. I used the window one. Hopefully this helps cheers bh1

I am wiring a light bar that I may want to use when out camping as a camplight. Which do think would be the best way. via ign or via accessory

After thought obviously via ingnition would not be best as engine will not be running ??

IGN and ACC are basically the same. If you want to use it for camping as well as driving then wire it up as normal (using a switch and high beams controlled relay) then wire another switch and relay to bypass it all so you can turn it on directly on battery power. Message me if you need help.

thanks Tairal
the reason for finding an accessory supply is for the switch supplied with the harness . It has an illumination in it which will always be on if I bypass everything. The supply from the battery via a fuse and relay is OK but I did not want the switch relay connection and illumination light to be on unless I am using the light. Hope that makes sense. You can tell I am no expert thanks again

I obviously need a supply that is available in the accessory position for the ign key that's why I originally though of the cig lighter socket. but that is awkward to get at by the looks of things. I have piggy back fuses but the wipers mentioned by buckhunter1 earlier are only on with the ign

Has anyone noticed that the 12V socket on their Hilux has a current limiting function? I bought an Arb fridge on Friday which works great on 240v. Plugged it into my 12v socket on my Sr today with the accessories on but vehicle off. The fridge display is on but when the fridge compressor goes to start, the red light will flash once and not start. When the vehicle is on, the fridge runs well. I have also tried the three cut out voltage modes on the fridge but to no avail. I then tried the same thing with my 12v drone charger and the same thing happened. Has anyone else noticed this?

The Rangers do the same thing with thier 12v socket in the tub, arb fridge will only run when the engine is on and the volts are up.

i just took a look at the wiring diagrams , the ciggy lighter is fed direct by the ACC fuse ( 15A ) but there is nothing else shown that would provide any current limiting. I do know that some cars have a tiny L shaped fuse behind the ciggy lighter so maybe that is affecting current draw.
