Shorted out alternator plug, causing no electrics

Postby stevo1111 on Sun, 09 Oct 2016 3:23 +0000

I removed the alternator, and accidently shorted out the positive going to the alternator. Now i have no radio, clock, windows, indicators. All fuses are in check, and no power to many of the ones under the steering wheel. Car runs fine but has trouble code lights on. Not sure where to look now. I have tried disconnecting the battery for 5 minutes for a reset but no luck. Hilux is a 2015 D4D 3.0. Any help would be awesome! Thanks.

So you've now learnt the first rule of alternator and starter motor work, disconnect the battery!
Re check all fuses. Easy to miss them. Under dash, , left hand kick panel/glovebox area, under bonnet, including the main fusible link(the big long grey block)

Yes was stupid, i was trying to avoid the stereo locking out. I found the problem, it was the 100amp amp fuse in the main fusible link. For now i just saldered the link back, and i have no idea if it will hold up. Thoughts?
