Extra Reverse lights - help please

Extra Reverse lights - help please

Postby ih8ubarney on Sun, 10 Jul 2016 11:43 +0000

Does anyone know if I'm able to splice a pair of light force rok 20 (40 watts in total) into the reverse light wiring? I can't find a fuse ( the manuel is no help in locating it) so not sure if the extra load would be too much for the existing wiring/ fuse if there is one
http://lightforce.com/index.php?PID=46& ... 4HBGHDXerU

Have looked at the fuse box in the engine bay and under the glove box

Any other things I should be aware of

Thanks for any help
Edit - current draw of each light is .9 amps

I had a look at mu Hilux, and I too could not find a fuse for the reverse lights. After investigating further, I found that they seem to be supplied via the 10A IGN No 1 fuse behind the glovebox. This also seems to affect the gear indicator on the dash. It could be supplying power to the gearbox selector which switches power to the reverse lights directly. It's probably not a good idea to connect directly to the lights if what I've found is correct. Use a relay instead.

adamkberger is right. I've got an extra light on the back of my 05 Sr. You may end up burning the wires out without the use of a relay.
Splice into the reverse wire with a relay as the trigger and run dedicated (fused) power through it to your lights. Hit the reverse gear and it should light up.
Quick Google search found me this:

Hope it helps out

Your reverse bulbs are 15 w each so put LED bulbs in and then say a 15 w led reverse light and you'll have all the light you need....unless you plan to see for a K in reverse....

If you got a tow bar, you can use the trailer plug. Its got a ground and reverse light pin.

You can buy an empty plug from Supercheap or just splice it in.

Tapped in for switching and power,I only have the ability to turn them on by putting the vehicle in reverse.I have no off on switch as that would require a relay.

According to my manual, reversing light globes are 21W each. I think you will find this is the same on most vehicles

Pull the globes out and use the existing wiring to power your new 40w light. No change in current draw, fuse needed, or load on the wiring.

You lose the illumination from the originals, but you will be way in front with the new light. I have done this on other vehicles.

Easy as :D

It is illegal to delete the original reverse lights if they remain fitted. If it's fitted it must work.

Good point, but considering what gets done by some on this board, I wouldn't regard that as a major concern. ;)

If concerned about the legality, replacing the 21s with 5s (if an appropriate base was available) could solve that.
