Redarc caravan brake controller

Mine is wired to the Stop lights and I have not had this issue. (I didn't do the wirering) The Hilux has a system to warn the driver if he is resting his foot on the brake pedal while driving. I wonder is this is part of your problem?

This is where I got my brake feed from. This is behind the passenger kick panel. The red wire is going to the brake controller. This plug is the last connection point before the loom continues to the rear lights.

Best option is to bypass the ECU and wire straight to the back with a diode. This will stop any feedback to the ECU / Trailer Sway control module.

Best with newer cars is to wire the brake light feed from the trailer plug.. also if you put a diode in your brake light feed the trailer brake lights wont work when electric brakes overrided

Just to add to this thread for anybody else looking: The Redarc brake controller will not just recieve a brake signal in the red wire, but will also apply power out of the red 'brake signal' wire, to illuminate the trailer brake lights for the manual mode. This concerned me as I assumed that putting power back through the brake wiring may upset any ECU that's also using the signal. The other issue I was concerned with is the Toyota uses a 'trailer module' (usually mounted above the spare), so the trailer wiring is kept separate from the vehicle (one fuse in acc box).

I recently installed the Redarc TowPro Elite on my 2016 SR5, and fed the brake signal from the side of the brake switch as noted above, but I also used a diode to stop the Redarc from feeding power back through it. I've had no faults or codes show up on the vehicle with it wired this way. I am planning to run a second wire from the Redarc down to the trailer plug with a few more diodes so I'll have the trailer light feature working as well.
