central locking slow to respond to the key

central locking slow to respond to the key

Postby BillyGoatCountry on Tue, 22 Mar 2016 8:40 +0000

My 2008 lux is slow to lock / unlock using the key remotes.

it can take anywhere from 3 - 6 seconds before the door locks respond when pushing the button on the remotes.

sometimes they respond immediately and sometimes you have to use the right combination of secret swear words to get the doors to lock / unlock .

It has 3 keys , one original factory key and 2 aftermarket that were coded to the ECU. all keys have the same issue.

where do i look to solve this ?

I would start with the basics...

Have you replaced the battery in the remote?

Unplug any accessories that could cause interference. Plug them back in one at a time.

Does it happen completely randomly? Or seems to be when parked at certain places?
I ask this because I know with mine it's let me down a few times. Twice was parked in a very specific spot next to a power pole at home. And the other time was at a freeway servo car park. Obviously just some sort of interference blocking that frequency.

Other then that you might have to take it to Toyota or an auto elec, maybe a locksmith and see what they think

It happens anywhere including parked in open areas with nothing else around.

My (honest) Auto lecky said he could spend 5 hours chasing the problem and still not find it , he didn't want to take that money off me when someone else might have dealt with it before and know how to fix it in 10 minutes.

Locksmith ? .... Nah it's electrical .

Toyota dealer ? Hahahahahahaha !

Love your sense of humour . The only time I took a vehicle to a Toyota dealer the 16 year old first year mechanic did more damage than what he was supposed to fix , and his boss stood there and bullshitt to my face denying it was their fault even when I showed him the CCTV footage

Talk to a locksmith, they are likely to know who is experienced with that sort of thing.

Before you do, I have noticed the same thing on my Fortuner. I think it is is simply the key going in to a battery saving low power mode. Check that the little red light is coming on when you first press it. I've noticed that sometimes I need to wait a few seconds when walking back up my car after being away from it for a while that it takes a bit to 'wake up.'

Lube the actuating rods and joints? Maybe the solenoids are struggling...

I have a similar issue with my 17 lux. Two genuine keys and it seems to only have started happening once I installed the dual battery system? Does this interfere with the computer some how? Because it’s still drawing power after the key is turned off??
Curious to find an answer to this one.

This is a very old post but just in case someone needs to know....

after a few auto electricians tried to find it without success , my mechanic fixed it by pulling the plug off the key remote receiver , cleaned the dust out of it and pushed it back on.

100 % fixed ever since.
