Anyone had any joy doing the under the console install with a manual gearbox. A quick look to me didn't locate anywhere big enough for the unit listed above.

There is no room under the console of a manual to fit a UHF as the gear linkages use the space.

i just put mine in behind the glove box, and just plug the hand piece into a socket in one of the spare switch holes behind the gear stick, next to the tract control switch.

Just had a look under my console and have found a location for the main unit below the cupholder, just need to make a bracket to use the two plastic carpet mounts and the hole in the lower part towards the rear. I have put a pic on my shed page to show it roughly. Not sure if I should mount the remote unit below the stereo unit as shown above or down the bottom above the tray.

I've added a second speaker mic bracket higher up so I can hear it more directly and see the actual console when actively using uhf.

Other times it sits on the original bracket down at knee level.

My unit fits between the centre console and the passenger seat via velcro to the carpet curtain on the passenger seat.
The handset which is just your basic type fits in that little space behind the centre cup holder perfectly.

doin.it.in.the.mud wrote:BReidy94 that's exactly the setup I've got mate (IC450 and minecorp bracket) - finished installing on the weekend. I ended up mounting the UHF unit under the trans tunnel trim ahead of the gearstick...tight, but fits good. Keep in mind that the minecorp bracket is setup for GME/Uniden mic hangers which have a different hole config to the icom ones. I ended up getting a gme hanger off fleabay to make it work. Routed the handset cable thu the start button blanking plate (SR). Bit of mucking round but all looks pretty tidy. I'll grab some pics next time I think of it.

Any luck with the photos mate?
Cheers

adamkberger wrote:Mine's mounted under the console. There's plenty of room under there. Power was obtained from one of the accessory outlets. This is a GME TX3350 which has a speaker in the handset. To get the console cover off, you simply unscrew the gear knob, unzip the handbrake boot and pull up from the console lid.

Hi, the coax runs behind the glovebox and out through one of the grommets in the firewall.

Any ideas where to mount the aerial? - no bulbar or nudge bar at present - was thinking of mounting to the sports bar with a short aerial for garage access. I have a hard lid on the back.

In the middle of your roof is the best for performance. Middle of sports bar is almost as good, but a lot of people run into height issues. Could use a bonnet mount:Image

Installed the 'remote' GME UHF today in the SR5 Dual Cab auto (no bull bar) - bit of a challenge as I used a GME bull bar mount (76mm) on the sports bar and then had to get the aerial cable to the dash. Ended up coming in through a grommet in the floor of the rear passenger footwell, under the carpet and under the centre console at the rear left. Everything is hidden away with a Lightforce factory look handpiece cat plug.

Just have to do the aerial cable in split tubing in a couple of spots and sika the grommet and then permanent (acc) power - all jobs for later when I'm not in a hurry!

Mic mount A-pillar grab handle.
Tidy install.

Installed my GME 3550 yesterday in my 2018 SR5.
Ran the coax through one of the snip-off grommets in the passenger firewall and mounted the radio in behind the glovebox (zip tied the unit+bracket in between two stacks of relays) is very secure and won't go anywhere.

Extension lead and power cable were then ran along front of pollen filter housing (follow existing cables) and into behind the climate control fascia. Power for the radio was picked up directly off the cigarette lighter as I wanted it to be on accessories, and ext. cable ran out to the Lightforce UHF adapter plate as mentioned previously in this thread. Power for the adaptor's illumination can be borrowed from the next door TRC button, from memory the red wire on the socket goes to the light blue (dash illum) and the black goes to white with black trace (earth)
