I am trying to find a switched 12v that turns off with the ignition to power my uhf in 2016 sr5. I know the two cigarette lighter plugs above the console are what i need to tap into, but cant figure out how to access the wires behind them. Can someone advise what bits to pull off to access them or another power source.

How good is the volume out of the GME hand piece? I have a 2016 sr5 and want to fit in the console as pictured.

adamkberger wrote:Mine's mounted under the console. There's plenty of room under there. Power was obtained from one of the accessory outlets. This is a GME TX3350 which has a speaker in the handset. To get the console cover off, you simply unscrew the gear knob, unzip the handbrake boot and pull up from the console lid.

How did you detach the centre console from the main console as you were lifiting it up, are these just pop out clips attaching one to the other?

I find the volume to be adequate. It's quite clear and doesn't need to be overly loud to understand it.

The console top is just clipped in. Lift up the armrest and pull up from the front on the compartment.

I also have the GME with the handset speaker / buttons.
ARB fitted the small main box down on the drivers side of the console / foot well out of sight. They were reluctant to drill the handset mount into the dash and left the handset in the console bin in front of the gear selector. This is where I'll be leaving it.

Jamie, so sorry. I missed this response.

My mic cord comes from the front corner of the floor console, (just to the left of the cig lighter) so the mic cord heads from there straight up to the steering column.
Has not been bothersome in any way, and I'm very happy with my chosen spot.

I have one in mine. Was about $60 posted I think. I just have them a call and payed over the phone. Mine doesn't have the logo on it. Nice and simple to fit and looks great.

Thanks Stink989

I think I will do this too. Mounting the box under the dash on the driver side behind the fuel lid / bonnet pull and using one of the un-used switch panels to drill a hole and fit a rubber grommet will give the microphone cable a nice straight path. Dreading tripping on the mic cable getting in and out if its just dangling...

Would also like to know how to get to these 12v outlets just above the center console.
Was hoping that they maybe able to be popped out from the front with our removing their dash surround?

Easy, pull out the console cover as discussed earlier and you'll have access to these cables.

I have a new Manual and want to pop out the blanks to put in spot light switch Fridge switch and an additional USB outlet.

I know I am being a sook, but when I tried to pull the console as advised by adamkberger it wouldn't budge, do you have to separate the console somewhere??

I don't really want to destroy my new car!!! :?

Slightly (but only just) off-topic question... Is there much value in UHF radio these days unless going bush. Our long trips are mainly between Adelaide and various race tracks such as Phillip Island. The domestic manager is not big on roughing it (yet).

Given that I wondered if there was much value in having UHF CB, my only CB experience was when 27 Mhz first came out a long time ago but I got put off by the crap that ended up flooding the airwaves - the ferals seemed to take over the spectrum and I and everyone I knew ended up leaving in frustration.

I'm wary of investing the bucks if it's still the same or if there's no practial value for UHF on the main highways.

Opinions, advice is welcome.
