A touch late to be asking questions like that.

Love to see a Toyota kit fitted to the latest model and see how easily it can be improved.

Anyone near by?

I went the Arb tray, it was about $90 odd with a Ctek charger and a couple of cables. I already had the charger and battery from my previous car so the whole shebang was only about $140. My only concern is my 100a/h battery is a big sucker and weighs around 30kg which is a little more than the 25kg max. I would like a lithium battery but have a hard time shelling out $1500!

The Baintech powertop looks to be a good unit and can be transferred between cars, just run a cable from the battery to the tray with an anderson plug and strap it in when you need it.

I got my ute back today from Toyota after they installed the genuine kit. They did a good job except the hole they put in the leather on the drivers seat. But I ended up with an Optima Blue Top battery in mine. Being an auto electrician myself I had high expectations on the workmanship and they meet them but that was short lived as soon as I opened the drivers door and saw the hole they had stabbed in my seat. They agreed to replace it after I let them know how I felt which included some colourful language.

Any reason why you can't use a vsr dual sensing in a 2016 Hilux apposed to dc/dc charger as Iv heard they suffer in the heat

They will work fine but they wont charge many deep cycle batteries to their max performance.

Looks great. Did you have to pick up an ignition wire and if so where did you find it. I have just purchased the Redarc BCDC1225LV charger. Appreciate any info supplied.

I used the ARB battery tray and it fits a N70 battery quite easily (100ah)

I grabbed the Ignition from the fuse box in the passenger kick panel with a jumper micro fuseconbevtot. I think Adam posted a little more on this back in this thread. Alternatively there is a blue wire on the wiper motor located on the driver side in the engine bay.

So does the N80 have a "smart alternator"??. or is everyone hooking up ignition because the alternator only puts out 13.2v (or whatever it is) when charging, which isnt ideal for AGM batteries?

If your putting in the redarc bcdc buy the long ranger bracket that installs in front of the radiator in the cool air. That's where mine is.

Not sure if you would call it 'smart', but I believe the alternator's output varies with engine temperature. I'm not sure if 'ECO' mode affects it also.

Yes - Gen 8 gets the ECU controlled 'smart' alternator.
Gen 7 have Temperature regulating alternator.
Gen 8 models vary alternator output to maximise vehicle power/efficiency and reduce emissions

Redarcs guide before recently updated said that the n80 versions were also temp regulated not smart alternators, cannot find it now though.

austeve wrote:Hey, looks good - just wondering how you got power to the rear? Is there a factory loom ready and waiting to carry power or did you have to run more cables?

I ran a 6mm twin to rear down past aux battery, along chassis rail to rear and up through cavity of left hand tail light. There is an opening into the tub from there.

Hi adamkberger ... I have a 2016 sr5 and am going to run power into the tub for a fridge etc you mentioned about there being a cavity near left hand tail light, do i have to drill a hole into the tub to route the wires or is there a hole or grommet? Cheers .. great pics an instal..

luxy16 you do not need to drill anything. Remove the taillight and you will see clearly that there's an opening that you can go up and over.

Adam.
