Hi everyone, I just received my dual battery kit for my new Hilux and will be posting photos as I install it. Part number is PZQ85-89560. As you can see from the photos, it appears to be a very comprehensive kit. Comes with a Redarc BCDC1220 multi stage charger and everything appears to be plug and play. Battery is a Century 65AH AGM.
Stay tuned....

Some more progress shots. I haven't finished yet as I have to get the canopy loom in and the aux battery is in the way.

Hi "rds929" That may be for that brand of battery tray. However I recently made some measurements & you can actually fit a N70ZZ battery in which is 100 AH measuring 310 long 175 wide 211 high 245 high to top of post. If you have a 3.00 D4D battery tray fitted to the previous model you could remove it with some slight mods will fit straight in,
ARB have just released a battery tray for the 2.8 D4D & it will take the N70 ZZ battery.100 AH.
The standard start battery ( squat type) on new model can also be upgraded to a N70ZZ also plenty of room.
Just one other point that spot for the BCDC charger is not good too close to engine heat better place would be
near LHS headlight towards radiator behind front grill. Also measurements I made apply to D4D do not know about 4 litre petrol engine Cheers :)

Output cable to the optional fuse block. Part number is PZQ85-89740. It should have just been included.

Fuse banks installed. Top is from Aux battery, bottom is from main battery. Makes for a very neat install. Most of the genuine kits connect to this fuse block. I believe this is standard on SR5 but is optional on lower grades. Part number is PZQ85-89630.

Battery clamped in. It's a good idea to run all of your cables before installing as there is no room to work afterwards.

This is the finished product. It's a very neat setup. I'm not sure how you'll go getting a bigger battery in there. Time will tell how good the 65AH is, but at least it will get a full charge. I only need to run a 40 litre Engel so I think this should be good for a couple of days. I can always get a solar panel for longer stays and/or connect car to my camper which has 2 130AH batteries.

Is that a complete Genuine Toyota item? Or bits and pieces.

Hey, looks good - just wondering how you got power to the rear? Is there a factory loom ready and waiting to carry power or did you have to run more cables?

I ran a 6mm twin to rear down past aux battery, along chassis rail to rear and up through cavity of left hand tail light. There is an opening into the tub from there.

When I originally bought the car it was $811 fitted. As you can tell, I ended up fitting it myself. I think it was around $740 supply only.

Cheers for the responses, im about to do my sr5 but just another question.
The redarc charger supplied (BCDC1220) doesnt seem to have an option for ignition shutoff unless its in 24V mode. As in it will continue charging from your starter until voltage drops below 12.7V unloaded. Does this worry you?

Did you have the option of using the BCDC1220-IGN which charges only when ignition is on? Or did Toyota reccomend using the charger in 24V mode? I.e. is the source select from the charger (blue) connected to starter battery or to ignition?

Thanks

BCDC1220 has an ignition wire to start the charging cycle. I'm not sure how this differs from the BCDC1220-IGN but the standard is what's recommended for the Hilux and I know that the IGN model is recommended for the Ranger.

Hey guy's if you want a bigger battery u can go for a pirana tray and they suggest an Exide LCS 27-79 battery which is a 97Ah. Also the battery has a support that comes off the top of the battery clamp, so you have additional support ontop of the bolts on the bottom of the tray, it doesn't move in the slightest. Price wise they tray was $215 but I got 15% off so got it for $182.75, Battery was $159 from anaconda on sale, just got to pick up the redarc dc-dc charger n make up some cables. Cheers

Adamkberger thanks for the toyota p/n for the fuse panel, when I spoke to toyota they had no idea and were going to call me back, still waiting, so I called them n told them. Cheers

Thanks all Scott

Is the crank battery the same size and shape as the aux battery?

If so could it be put in the aux tray and a larger deep cycle battery put in the original battery position?

I forgot to mention that you will also require some lugs for the fuse block, part number is PZQ85-89670. I have ordered mine and are still on back order. Waiting on Toyota Australia to add them to their system. Some people have mentioned that they had these included with their car but mine did not have any.
