2016 Head Unit Removal

2016 Head Unit Removal

Postby gnomeo on Mon, 04 Apr 2016 3:20 +0000

I've searched here and on the net but Mr Google has been of little help. Has anyone here removed their head unit yet and if so what is the procedure? Reason I ask is I want to fit a genuine revering camera myself. I have the fitting instructions for the camera but it gives no detail of how to remove the head unit.

Any help appreciated

Yes I've had mine out. You'll start with removing the instrument cluster surround. There are 2 screw in clips. Unscrew them, pop out the inserts and pull the surround forward. Next you'll remove the silver trim above the drinks cooler. Start from the left and just pull it forward as it's just clipped on. I can't remember if you need to pull out the glovebox but if you do, first remove the cover below it, then inside there are 2 clips which come out with a quarter turn. Disconnect the damper and then pull the glovebox forward. Next you'll remove the drinks cooler which just pulls out. Next you need to pull forward the climate control and disconnect all the plugs on the back. Now you should have exposed the 4 screws holding the head unit in. Unscrew these and the whole unit should come forward. Now you're done.

Hope this helps, Adam.

not looking at a new head unit just you need to remove the head unit to plug the genuine camera into the back of it.

The factory headunit controls the screen in the middle of your speedo. Lost all functionality of that screen when i removed mine for a test.

To the guys that have had theirs out. What plugs are in the back there? RCA? Additional USB plugs, anything else?

Hi guys, I removed mine just the other day to check harness plugs etc. Am i the only one who finds the standard head unit confusing and dysfunctional??
I installed new pioneer speakers throughout cab but sound terrible on stock headunit (worse than standard speakers) so have decided to upgrade.
Wiring harness is same as previous models. You can buy harness + steering wheel control module for about $100 on eBay. Have also found a plug which converts OEM usb to actual USB (to plug into new head unit rear USB port). Looking to install the pioneer 3800 model. Anyone else looking to do the same? interested to know if any issues occur etc.

Has anyone worked which wire to snip so you can program routes into the satnav while underway?

A Very special thank you to "Gaby-69" from Argentina . Anyone wanting to remove the head unit or remove the dash parts must watch this video (left hand drive but right hand drive is similar) how to do it very clear & easy to follow, only suggestion make sure to cover all plastic parts with a soft cloth or masking tape as you pass one piece over the other parts are easily scratched. Great post.CHEERS :D
