Manual or Auto..?

Just wondering why so many prefer the auto over the manual box?

Manual or Auto..?

Rockhoppa,
I chose Auto, I do not know why but now that I have it I love it. Towing and 4x4ing is great with auto and I do not see any disadvantage from the old manual Navara.
Getting a bit lazzy with age I suppose.

Regards,

It doesn't have one of those clutches that play up and need replacing!

Manual or Auto..?

Why cant we have a gearbox that is auto in 1st and reverse, towing a trailer and parking it would be easy as not to mention the slow off road stuff, then manual for the rest. No hunting between gears when the load comes on up hills etc. Just a stupid dream, Macca

i prefer auto pretty much cos im too lazy with the amount of driving i do.

my next car purchase im hoping is a V8 VE for weekends, which id definately get in manual as it would be a "fun" car, not a work car

Manual or Auto..?

Go the AUTO!!!!!!!!!

There are only two reasons that I can think of that a manual is better of road.

1 - Manual is better going down step hills in low range first, all you need to do with the auto is either a touch of foot brake or pull your hand brake up a couple of notches.

2 - Once I stalled in a fairly deep river crossing (petrol MQ Patrol shorty) as the engine suck a small bit of water into the air filter and the only reason I got out with out being flooded was that I could start the car in gear and basically pulled myself out with the starter motor and allot of right foot. Can't do that with an auto.

Other than that I believe that the auto is superior in every other way.

I thought the downhill low range was pretty good in the auto.
Gave it a good work out the other day on a day trip with camwill69 and it faired a hell of alot better than the side steps 8-)
