Limp Mode

Postby seanr72 on Sat, 07 Aug 2010 7:37 +0000

Of recent time ihave been having quite a few issues with my D4D going into limp mode anything upto 5 times a day, so i emailed Troy at tuneit to find out if they new of the problem and was told to bring my vehicle to them in southport on the gold coast as they have seen this problem with quite a few D4D hilux's.

He totally removed the chip and harnes and fitted a diode to the wiring harness as apparantly they have a tendancy to get voltage drop issues which causes these problems.

As well as modifying my harness he also loaded up all the latest tunes which he told me would help eliminate the cold start rattles.

Well after quite a bit of driving last night and this morning no limp mode and by now it definatly would have done it atleast once or twice and to top it of cold start rattle is alot better and better performance.

Didnt charge me a cent, pretty bloody good considering i bought the chip 2 1/2 years ago.

Wonder how many of the other distributors would provide that level of service.

Thanks Troy im a very happy customer.

Cheers Sean

so obviously your lux was outputting to high a voltage into the chip.. the diode would have dropped that voltage about .7v (depending on the diode).. so dropping it back below 13v has obviously brought it back within the chips specs..

so a 'voltage drop' is actually what they've done..

Steve,
Not 100% sure on the exact details of the diode but as long as it fixes the limp mode im happy as it was getting to the point i didnt want to drive it.

Dave,

From what troy told me this is the most common fix for hiluxs with tuneit, dpchip, engtek tek etc as they are all the same chip.

Running a DP chip in my 06 Hilux and the engine light comes on under load (up hills / towing boat). Took the chip off and it still does the same thing. Went to Maitland Toyota and they said it had thrown a "major fuel leak" code. Got the standard burst about dirty fuel, injectors, fuel pump etc. Had my fuel tank inspected about 3 months ago and it was spotless. This has been happening for about 10 months now and am looking at a trip up to the NT in October. Any help / advice would be appreciated.

Hi my 07 is stuck in limp mode Any 1kd engine hilux experts out there?
Last weekend I was driving my truck and it went into limp mode, I had it scanned and it came up with p0047 which is the turbo or electronic solenoid for the turbo so brought new turbo and solenoid and still in limp mode I've had the codes reset and still in limp mode with the same code. Any one had a similar problem or info on how to fix it? I've been told from a mate that having a 3inch exhaust will have somthing to do with it but not sure. Also when turning ignition on and off there's no movement on the solenoid like there should be so guessing wiring promblem?
