look on the penrite site, I use the FS as recommended by their customer service tech.
drop the fluid when cold, should get about 4 litres then top up, run for a day then do it again, do it 3 times.

Ok I checked their site and found the right stuff, thanks for that.

Yeah I was thinking about using that method to change it, either that or use the let it run and pump a litre at a time out and then top it up until it goes clean.

Gonna buy 3 4L bottles of atf fs and start it on the weekend.

Had the atf temp warning light come on the other day after a big beach run, it only came on for a sec before I turned the car off and let it cool down.

I've ordered a trans cooler to go on, just waiting for it to show up.

The car has nearly 230,000k's on it and I dont think the atf has ever been changed so its probably due for it.

Thanks for the tips ;)

At those km's would pay to inspect or replace the screen as previously described.

I got this out of it today, very dark brown. Only got 2.3L out this time, but I'll just keep doing it until it goes clean.

Whats the proper procedure to check the trans oil in the Hilux? My owners manual doesn't say. The dipstick says hot or cold.

Should I check with engine running like an old falcon I had advised?

straight after turning engine off? or wait 10 minutes?

or stone cold?

Yuk! That’s what happens to transmission oil without adequate cooling or if you make the torque converter work too hard, eg 4x4H on sand. Did you drop the pan and make sure there wasn’t significant residue?

check the level with the engine running or very shortly after, let stand over night and you will get more , I get nearly 4 litres.

The marks are as stated, when cold or hot.

I would like to take it off to do it properly but Im actually working away at the moment so not really equipped to fix it if something goes wrong (Last time I did a transmission service on my falcon ute it turned into an entire weekend of snapped bolts, drilling and tapping and crying while covered in trans fluid) also I need to drive it every day.

When Im home in a few months I'll probably take the pan off and clean it out properly, at the expense of a few L of fresh trans oil.

For now I'll be happy with just having fresh oil.

Hilux KUN26 Transmission fluid change?

I have read on many sites that said you dont have to change your automatic transmission fluid because its ( Toyota's long life) and its suppose to last a life time.

Now im not to sure about that, but i was wondering how many of you have changed the ATF? I also read that you need some kind of specialized tool to do so?

Get a transmission shop to do it for you using dedicated flushing equipment.

If you don't have an auxiliary cooler after your radiator cooler and have done any towing or beach work you will need to change your fluid at maybe as little as 40-50,000kM intervals and still be doing damage.

Use 100% synthetic fluid like Valvoline or Penrite or the like, cheaper and better than Toyota fluid in most cases.

Lots of good information here Jaybajan
As HK suggests - trans shop is the sure way to get the job done right

About to change my oil. Can anyone confirm the driver's side is feed to the radiator. Above post says "sorted" but doesn't give the answer....

Seems drivers side is supply side. Disconnect passenger side hose from pipe and it's long enough to put into a drain tin or bottle...
I started mine up and it ran about 4 to 5 litres out.
