Well, been a bit of a rigmoral to date ... My mechanic has been trying to get info from various vendors, and toyota dealerships. He's good friends with the head mechanic at a very big toyo service centre who said "we have never done one mate, noone touches them".

The guy in Wangara you mentioned 10 luxx, was very forthcoming to book me in, until I asked what type of oil he puts in it and mentioned that it needs to be WS oil not the type IV oil (which is what covs thought was needed but infact is not) ... contact has gone dead since then despite numerous attempts. Do you know what oil he put in yours???

Anyway my local guy (i trust) is trying to find out more info ... but seems to be an odd one and he said "just can't find any info on these even from toyota, its very weird"

Give Wholesale automatics in Vic a call. They do a lot of upgrades for the Toyota autos

May i know drain and refill for KUN25 D4D (2.5) auto transmission need how many Litre?
And check the Dipstick is look at the hot or cold level?
My lux is after a day i check the dipstick is above the hot level, when idling the engine and playing the gear from P to L and back to P. the level is at Cold there.
So I am a bit confuse of the actual correct reading for ATF level.

The Type4 oil goes into the 4 speed auto's in the diesels.

The WS (World Standard) oil goes into the V6's auto 5 speed. The 5 speed auto is a sealed unit you need to replace the fluid at dealership. I beleive they pump it in and out at the same time through the dipstick or something like that.

The 4 speed in the diesels you can easily drain and replace the fluid yourself, even change the auto trans filter (valve body strainer).

Yep. Though my mech reckons he can do it no worries , just has to get the WS oil. Though he did say he would just dump it and refill unless I nwanted to properly flush in which case just means a lot more oil purchased (wasted in effect).

Various places (including one a guy on this thread had his done by) seem to be using type 4 oil in the 5 speed. Even covs and Fuchs recommended type 4 for the 5spd. When I pointed it out that it could be wrong oil, they stopped speaking to me or answering emails (the auto place). Weird.

Yeh I had a look back at my paper work mate the oil used is called Kendall versatrans and has been working great in the last 20,000ks so I will be doing it again soon.
If your going to change the oil you may aswell take the sump off and change the filter at the same time.

I asked my local Toyota dealer about this too, and was told they don't touch the 5spd boxes, my car is coming up to 90,000km, and I have no idea how it was driven before I bought it.

Anyone know of a place that does the full flush with the correct oil in the Sydney-Central West area?

I'd appreciate the peace of mind that comes with knowing all fluids are fresh.

The 5 speed doesn't have a dipstick, I dare say the dealer will just pull the in/out cooler lines at the front and do a flush with the vehicle running and up to temp.
It can be done at home, but is a bit of messing around.

Sounds good Jack, any chance you could PM the name of the place? I'm heading to Queensland in July, and would prefer to get it done before then.

I did ask him and have forgotten, but he knew the difference for the 5spd and my d4d 4spd. He owns a d4d also and is well aware of what is needed.

He did use a full synthetic and I think it was possibly the genuine toyota oil.

Taking it back to get a cooler done soon for all the beach driving down south.

Cool no dramas with type 4 on the 4spd. It's the 5spd causing confusion!

OK got mine back, fluid dumped and refilled (not quite a "flush) ... using toyota WS oil.

All sorted. He said the oil that came out was pristine ... and quite suprised, must be some good shit. Cars done 120k

i probably could have got away with it, but its one of those things i suppose if i hadnt done so, the universe would have frowned and probably be dirty oil !

This is the transmission oil that goes into the 5sd box. Do NOT use type 3 or 4 ATF fluid in the 5spd. (It's ok in the 4 speed auto , different ball game)

Be careful because a lot of vendors and even transmission places seem to be putting the wrong fluid into 5spd transmission. Covs and Fuchs both recommended the WRONG oil to me and my mechanic.

I suspect the reason is that they're rarely serviced so many places have incorrect info on what to use.

So Qwerty mate, for us 4speed diesel, it doesnt matter if we opt for a WS oil into our trans? No adverse effects?

no idea mate about putting WS oil into a 4spd auto ... I'd stick with the Type IV or Type III (whatever is recommended) .. .which is common and easy to get.

From what I understand this "WS" (world standard) oil is very different to the III/IV ATF oils ... and a lot rarer / harder to get.

The issue seems to be that some people are putting type 3 or 4 ATF oil into the 5spd which is not good.

Just to re-iterate, the head foreman at the toyo dealership my mechanic is mates with said they never ever do change the oils in the 5spd (unless for some reason like an accidental leaking of it or wahtever)... and that there's just no point.

This seems odd to me and many people, including my mech ... but then he did say when he dumped the old oil from my 5spd that it was "crystal clean" and found that pretty remarkable after 120,000 km

I won't be doing mine again given how "Long life" this stuff is, and the result speaks for itself ... still, it was worth me doing for peace of mind I suppose.
