So after reading a LOooot about this in various posts i am still not sure about a few things I have a Manual 2008 SR D4d and are now running 265/75/16's (and No, i will not be going bigger ) and the gearing bible indicates that i should go to 4.1:1 ratio this should put it around 8rpm from factory with the cheese-cutters.
At this size it is this is around 31.6" not 32" if i put 3.909's in and the recommended size is 3.95:1 around 150 rpm from factory this would still be a significant improvement over the current 3.54:1 that come from factory surely ?????
Some folks say front locker, some say rear locker, I have been in situations were either would have been of great benefit so here i am totally lost in a clear choice, my preference so far is a rear auto locker or detriot trutrac and leave the front ( will be a prado 8") open ? but this is suject to change

Just fitted a 4.1 ratio diff from a 120 series Prado into my 09 Hilux. Went in pretty easily. Now the power is back after fitting the 17 inch wheels. Also fitted the Prado calipers and disc to the front. Heaps better braking

Did you do this your self? Is yours sr or sr5? Did you retain the add diff sleeve? Did you swap the meter roller over with the bush?

Just got a set of prado 4.1s to chuck in my hilux
I read I need to put the front diff sleeve from my car onto the prado diff to work, is this still the case if my car is an sr with no add
Is the prado sleeve the same as sr lux?

What did you pay for them man? And where?

Fellas, excuse my ignorance, but do you need to change both FRONT and REAR diffs to re-gear back to standard final ratios?

In my scenario, I have the standard 3.5 gears (Manual D4D) with 33's and it's a downright slug. Can I simply just change the rear diff gears to correct this?

Nope, must do both man! Otherwise in 4wd everything will bind up an blow to bits cos it'll all be trying to turn at different speeds.

Anyone know if I need to swap that front axle tube over in an sr??

Ok so I installed the prado 4.1 diffs last weekend and what a difference, drivability is back and the thing is great on the highway, the car has a mild flash tune which helps.
I installed high tensile cap head bolts and a auto lokka whilst the rear was out. The lokka makes it a bit of a pig at slow speed on road but hopefully the off road ability will be worth it.
If you have an SR like mine you will not need to swap the front diff tube as is the same as hilux sr.
Iv also picked up economy, approx. 1.5l Per 100 better.
Cost me $1200.00 all up including the lokka, new studs, diffs.
worth every cent.

Good result then mate! Hanging to do mine one day, I'm sure my clutch is begging for it too.

I'm not sure on the codes as I just asked for 120 prado 4.1s and I just checked the ratios when I received them to confirm.

I thought I had both diffs sourced for $400 for BOTH...

Than I re-checked the pictures here - it was the older diffs

Can anyone confirm the Prado 120 series front and rear diffs are a straight swap with a 2012 SR Hilux diffs and nothing else to worry about?
