Whilst not perfect, the 4.1 remains the closest match to 33's from this table.

I might stand corrected, but I thought that the ADD was all contained on the axle tube and the diff housing was the same part number on the Hilux and Prado. Therefore swapping the diff over and keeping the Hilux axle tube which is held on by 4 bolts should retain the ADD. Anyway, that was the outcome from the initial research Max and I did. My truck is an SR so I don't have direct experience but i did retain the axle tube.

an any body confirm this? Is the ADD just fixed to the axle tube? So the actual
Diff can be swapped say from a prado into an SR5, the SR5's axle tube just needs to be retained?

Can anyone confirm the SR5's ADD unit is only Fixed to the axel tube?
Meaning a prado 120 diff can be swapped into an SR5, providing the SR5s axel tube is retained to Keeping the feature.

Yes it is just the axle tube, i managed to score some very low klm 3.9's from a prado and didn't rebuild them. You can leave the front pretty much complete and swap the axle tube a little collar from the side gear and the rear support then it fits straight in.

Another thing that is different on the 95 series Prado front diff housing, is the filler plug is at the front of the diff housing.
The 120 filler plug is at the back passenger side of the housing.
Good for a quick glance.

Passing through country and seeing country are two different things.

the 4.1 ratio diff your looking for only came out on the Prado120 with the 1KZ diesel fitted.

there arent many because from memory this motor was only available for bout the first 2 years. so mid 2001 to bout 2003 when they did their first tech change to the D4D.

nobody makes aftermarket 4.1 gears, theres only genuine for the front.

the 4.1's come out on the US Tacoma's with the 4cyl petrol engine from memory. so second hand from the US is obtainable.

Thanks rod, has anyone tried running 3.9's with 33's?
Obviously 4.1 is better IF you can source a set

Im was talking to just differentials in the US and like most i have 285/75/16 mud terrains and after 4.1 ratio diffs.... i had a chat to these guys and asked what i needed they said buy this kit:
http://www.justdifferentials.com/GPFJCR ... lect-1.htm

And apparently they fit in the original carriers on the hilux they said, so win win. But its best to fit lockers in because you get the new carrier with the locker anyway!!

Has any one actually swapped the axle tubes from a SR5 to a prado diff? Im in the process of swaping my front diff with a sr5 one, mines a SR. Ive pulled both axle tubes out but there is a collar thing in the sr5 diff that needs to come out. Ive tried levering it out but not sure how hard I should push it. Im swappi g them because the SR5 one has a locker in it.

Cheers,

Chris.
