Interested, running 33's and loaded up, especially towing, definitely not stopping quick enough.

I haven't had anything to do with RDA rotors but I'm sure they are also a good brand. Most aftermarket gear is an improvement over standard.

Thanks for the interest guys. I should have something up over the next couple of days.

No cracking around the cross drilled holes?

I wouldnt mind going the Slotted/Cross Drilled 4000 series DBA but have heard a couple of stories about cracking around the holes. Interesting stuff.

G'day guys. Got back from a trip to Little Desert National Park today. When I was cruising around in 4H I noticed a squeaky sound coming from front left wheel. Sounds likes a stone in the brakes or something getting stuck on. However it only seems to happen in 4WD. Didn't happen in 2WD. Doing short bursts in reserve seems to stop it for a little bit. It has happened before off road but never this bad. And never happens on bitumen. Any ideas as to what I should look for before I pull it apart?

Similar thing happened to me on Fraser. Front right was making a squealing sound. I took the wheel off and gave the brakes a decent squirt with the pressure hose which dislodged a small stone. Hope this helps.

Mine did the same and dealer machined them under warranty but it returned again
Was told once they heat warp they are never the same, changed to slotted and no warps since

So long story short, For myself 05 sr5 d4d with stock brakes, What kit should i throw in?

I see the prado upgrade can be a bit of mucking around. But have heard good results of DBA rotors + bendix pads?

I used bendix pads in my last evo 2 and the first time i hit the brakes almost threw me out the window.

Don't bother with Bendix pads. Get some Lucas TRW pads. You'll be very impressed with the difference in braking performance just by changing to these pads, I've had them in every vehicle I've owned and fit them to most of my customers cars, superior quality to Bendix. They may not last quite as long and may produce a little more dust but the performance is way better. Bendix selling points are that they're long lasting and low dust but for that u compromise on performance

I've replaced my discs and calipers to prado ones from wrecker direct bolt up no mods required just buy stone guards discs and calipers u have an instant upgrade, made huge difference and Toyota dealer can't belive how easy it was to upgrade , I think there about 50mm bigger and slightly thicker just make sure u got 17 inch rims to fit extra size. :D

I am trying to fit steel 16x7 inch Prado rims to a 03 Hilux to replace the old split rims >After careful measurement I have found that despite what people have said on the net the rims fit but are not legal .An offset of +15mm puts the wheel track at 30mm wider than the 25mm allowed .Dissapointing

Upgrading brakes, first step

Postby Locknut on Tue, 09 Jun 2015 2:58 +0000

G'day guys, there's a lot of blokes out there that have done specific mods to their brakes. But what I would like to know is what ppl think is the best thing to start and end with. My pads are due to be replaced and I'm not at all happy with the trucks stopping ability  so I thought now might be a good time to start doing some research.

My second question is whether my 2010 SR comes with slotted rotors as standard or is this an aftermarket mod?

Thread merged.

Look at EBC Green stuff or QFM (Queensland Friction Materials) pads.

Slotted rotors are aftermarket. DBA or RDA being two of the popular brands. DBA being more expensive.
Cheers Rod
