Hi everybody
I have a GGN25 Hilux 07 and the rear LSD is r/s.
I'm looking at fitting a mechanical locker maybe a Lockrite or Truetrack?
Any information would be much regarded.

So a lot of pros and cons about this.
What would be better suited off-road / on road / towing ect.

Getting diff regeared very soon just want to chuck in a rear true trac or Yukon

I love my Yukon despite its on-road manners. as I've said before, its fine if you drive like a granny, but as soon as you drive like a hoon, you'll get lockup with the resultant scrubbing (around corners)

X2 for the grizzly but like packeteer said they dont have the best on road manners.
Think ill be lucky if I get 40k out of my ATZ's but its been fun :D

Is it possible to make a truetrac "lock up" when pulling the handbrake when one rear wheel is in the air ?
I'm thinking of fitting a detroit locker or truetrac but can't decide due to bad on road manners of the locker , but the lack of locking with the truetrac :?
if it's possible to make the truetrac lock up by using the handbrake it might be the best of both?

I have a detroit locker fitted to my 2011 hilux works a treat on road and off. Appox 1200 dolars fitted from opposite lock Rockdale. Had one in my hj47 best mod ever. 300, 000k's no problems.

How does you're detroit locker behave on road? I can't decide truetrac or detroit, our hilux lift rear wheels alot offroad so I'm leaning towards the detroit locker, but I'm affraid of it's onroad manners, especially when mine is never loaded and we get some ice and snow in the winters sometimes and lots off rain trough the year.

I have the Grizzly and love the action on slippery surfaces. I have not encountered anything unpredictable

it's only when on bitumen that the behaviour is poor

I don't think I would like a Detroit or a Grizzly on ice, or hard icy snow slurry over any surface.

Vehicles with locked diffs on a slippery enough surface, like ice, packed snow, and some really slimy clay, will show a strong tendency to simply slide sideways down the camber/side slope to wherever. I've encountered this a couple of times, and it took me a while to work out what the problem was. (yeah, bit slow - I know  )

Perhaps research some of the US forums and see if you can find anything sensible about performance on ice.

Ok I fitted an Eaton Trutrac to my rear diff on my old 1992 2.8d Hilux twin cab,

It was $772 delivered for the new trutrac diff centre, I pulled the diff out and took it down to the local diff place for install. Now the cost blew out a bit as my diff was 50% worn so I had it totally rebuilt and then got my rear wheel bearings done at the same time so i dont have the cost on the install. When installed you can have the trutrac set up different for your use.

Now the Trutrac works a treat, I love the simplicity and if it does not lock when a wheel is totally off the ground just apply handbrake a little or foot brake and you will get the drive you need for both wheels. It makes the low flex hilux much better off road.

I am very happy and am now looking to fit one into the front diff (IFS)

Now my reason for fitting is not just price. I like the simplicity of less to go wrong and my thinking is that a Hilux is not built as strong as a patrol of cruiser so not being fully locked may have less chance of breaking other things, also gives you better steering.

If you floor it around a wet roundabout it will lock up and send the rear sideways but as you know a 2.8d hilux is no powerhouse even with a turbo.

Hope this helps someone out and i will follow up if i can get a front Trutrac for my diff

Ps I need to know 1992 Hilux 2.8d Ln107 SR5 IFS front diff size (7.5" or 8") and spline count (27/28/30)
Id plate info: G285 = 4.3 ratio LSD rear diff and 4.3 front non LSD diff

How are you guys finding truetrac in rear long term? Any real benefit off road? Have to apply hand brake to get out of trouble?
Im not too keen on having open diff on wet road if I go to an e locker or am i over thinking it?
