Hi all,

Just wanted to confirm whether installing an ELocker also results in the carrier being replaced for both the front and rear?

Cheers.

EDIT: also did a bit of research today as I want to twin-lock and re-gear, I believe these are the ELocker part numbers people are after:

FRONT (2014+ diesel autos only):
99-ELKR9334-00 - "Toyota Hilux, 2005 - Current, front with 3.91 & Up ratios".

FRONT (pre-2014 all and 2014+ that aren't diesel autos):
99-ELKR10994 - "Toyota Hilux, 2005 - Current, front with 3.73 & Down ratios".

REAR
99-ELKR9334-00 - "Toyota Hilux, 1990 - Current, Rear".

Don't take this as gospel as this is based off my research only. Information on the differential ratios taken from the gearing bible where it was also mentioned that the 2014+ diesel autos received a new 5spd gearbox which also saw the ratio change from 3.7 to 3.9.

Hi all,

I'm considering fitting lockers and currently researching all the options available up here in FNQ.

Easiest and cheapest option is to go Air Lockers but I don't want to fit an air compressor etc.
I also subscribe to the KISS principle, the simplest method is "usually" the most reliable.

So, E-lockers, in my case, is the way to go.

3 possible suppliers up here are OL, Terrain Tamer (Cape York Automotive) and Ironman.

Checked Ironman's current catalogue and didn't find the e-lockers listed. Thought I'd delve a little deeper and have a look at Harrop's dealer listing. Ironman are no longer a "preferred" supplier.

I emailed Harrop to ask the question if this was correct. They actually rang me back and told me that they had "issues" with the arrangement they had with Ironman and no longer rebrand it as an Ironman product. He did say that Ironman can still source and supply the Harrop E-locker however it's no longer a preferred dealer. He wouldn't elaborate any further. (Not sure if this was discussed in any other threads, just thought I'd add this info)

Anyway, after all that I had emailed all three suppliers up here and the quickest and most informative reply was from Cape York Automotive who also have a diff specialist on staff that does the fitting. (OL and Ironman didn't even reply! Not a good sign in my books!)

I will more than likely go with them, just have to decide to go for R or F&R. A lot of coin though. Might just try the rear and see how it goes!

Hey buddy,

I currently have an E-locker in the rear or my car fitted by OL. Ever since putting it in I've been able to get up pretty much everything I've aimed my car at. I don't think that a front locker is really needed. The extra traction that i've gained pretty much seems to get me everywhere I want and if I am hopelessly stuck and unable to get up then the winch comes out - but that is a very rare sight these days.

One of my mates has an air locker fitted to the front and rear of his car but he uses his rear 90% of the time and he said that he only uses his front when absolutely needed but tries not to use it if he can. He has the ARB lockers fitted to his car and has had a lot of problems with air leaks and such.

Thanks Jaydo..

Yep, I actually had a rear air locker in the old Prado I used to have and what you say is true....it helps you tackle anything. I never had any problems with it but do prefer the simplicity of the e-locker.

I'm pretty much convinced to just do the rear for now, I'd have to save up a lot longer to do both.

Probably best to get a few quotes.

Opposite Lock, Terrain Tamer etc.

Seeing you're in Melbourne, I'd certainly get a quote from Harrop to do in their workshop too.

OL did mine for 2k.
Ironman quoted 1800 (however that was about 6 months ago now - not sure if they still supply as a previous post said something about preferred retailers.)

Hi all,
i have 2015 sr5 d4d manual with open diff and traction control. boring.
i have access to new diff centres from approx 2012 landcruiser hj 70 series diesel manual which have electric factory diff lock.
are the housings the same as hilux 8 inch diff,? can the crown wheel and pinion be swapped over to retain same gearing?
worth an ask, would be best solution if its feasible

Eaton/Harrop dont stock or sell replacement rubber grommets that goes through the diff housing for the wire. You have too buy the entire electrical mechanism again.... Has anyone found anyone online or in-store that sell a similar rubber grommet that would be suitable ?

Or should i just see what clark rubber can hook me up with and then hit it with some silicone?

Hey guys, do got a question. Had a locker in the back of my lux now for close to a year now. I keep having problems with the rear diff leaking. Have taken it to my mechanic and he's stopped it leaking every time, but it costs me an arm and a leg to do it. He reckons its because the locker is too strong and its causing the leak - which makes sense - every time its started leaking again, its been after i've used it on some tough tracks.

My question is, can someone tell me how to fix it myself and stop it from leaking? I can't afford to keep taking it back to my mechanic all the time and getting him to fix it back up again. Or if anyone has any other suggestions.

At this stage I'm thinking of selling the lux and buying something with a bigger stronger diff..... maybe a LC200? haha.

Leaking from where exactly on the diff? Where the diff bolts to the housing? You can remove the studs and drill them out to suit 8mm high tensile cap head bolts to help fix it

Have already had the mechanic drill two extra studs in. No it's on the backside of it where the spare wheel sits around what looks like a circular cap. I'll take a photo of it tomorrow and post it up because right now, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are you just using sealant or paper gasket
I use the sealant from Toyota and the paper gasket
A thin layer of sealant paper gasket another thin layer of sealant and bolted it up tight and never had a problem since make sure both surfaces are clean
Check the housing is not bent.
