Have used high tensile studs in the diff.
It just has a sealant on it for now. Next service I'll try paper gasket as well.

I think that the housing is flexing when I engage the locker, causing it to leak...

My 2005 D4D does exactly that, but it leaks/seeps a little less. My lux is stock though - the housing/diff has never been touched in its 290,000kms. I guess in my case the problem is age.

Can anyone advise best place to buy e lockers, even if its online i don't mind?

I went to TJM at Hendra in Brissie and asked the question for a quote but they had no idea what they was on about.... they took my details and claimed they would call back with answers but i haven't heard from them since... I just want to buy front and rear and fit myself.

Opposite Lock.
They can install too if you dont have the expertise , time or tools
Call harrop to find the most reputable installer in your region.
Many workshops can install - not all can install well

after upgrading to a e locker from the standard lsd that came with hilux will the "fuel economy change as a result since when open power is only transfered to one wheel not 2", obviously when engaged and locked more effort goes into twisting both wheels etc
im a hilux add some diesel anytime now. . . .

I’ve had an e locker for about 9 months now. Haven’t noticed any difference in fuel economy.
If my understating is correct and from what I have noticed, , you still have power sent to both wheels at all times much like a standard lsd (especially an old worn one), only when you break traction will the power naturally go to the free wheel.

In short, the car feels exactly the same as what it did prior to the e locker. Only difference is you can now lock it when you want! :)

Theoretically, fuel economy should be better because you don't have the drag of the LSD clutch pack when you turn.

I reckon any difference would be unmeasurable.

Your reference to power only going to one wheel when unlocked sounds like confusion with a Detroit Locker/No-spin/Soft Locker. The E- Locker is different.

I had clicking noise coming from the rear of my hilux so I pulled the diff out to find this...

I'd encourage everyone with an elocker to put a camera in the diff filler hole and check the pinion gear shafts.Image

It appears the source of the problem is the screws that hold the pinion shafts in place work lose...

I think I was lucky with this one - the magnet that collects debris did its job as the is no visible damage to the gears and the bearings all appear in good condition.Image

Yeah had the Eaton for a couple of years, never failed.... Fuel economy a hell of a stretch - Maybe a variation in tyre wear, locking it up around town in the wet :)

Harrop posted a YouTube about how their locker unlocks between a vehicle moving backwards and forwards. Their intention is to disprove the social media chatter sbout its operation... but it seems to confirm it:

Had this happen for the third time in 50,000kms. Fitted and worked on by qualified workshop each time. Currently parked up at the moment getting repaired but almost had enough. Elocker will be coming out if it happens again.

I'm pleased to hear that they helped you as they didn't give me the impression that they stand by their products very well. They didn't help me as the unit was second hand as part of a complete rear end I purchased.

While they didn't acknowledge the problem with these locker unit, the parts aren't too expensive and the rebuild didn't cost me much as I did it myself.

I am concerned though that the same problem has occurred again. I've just been reluctant to stick a camera in there as getting the 3rd member out is a PITA.

So after a few months of the Hilux been parked up because of this locker issue I’ve finally got the diff centre and locker back. It took a long time to get any info back from them.

This time around it got sent to them rather than the local diff guru to figure out why it keeps happening, which I still don’t know. They said they couldn’t repair the locker and I would need to cough up for a new one unless I had receipts, which I didn’t. I chose to get my diff centre back and i’ll look into another brand, likely TJM pro locker.

Few weeks go by over Christmas and New Years, and I get a phone call to say they are replacing the locker with a brand new unit under warranty if I was ok with it. Only cost to me was the fitting kit, bearings and some freight.

Happy it’s replaced, no idea why it let go. Hopefully it’s sorted for good.

That's a good outcome. Perhaps they are beginning to realise that looking after customers is good for business. I'll still be looking closely at the TJM or ARB lockers next time.

I'm thinking now the ends of the axle rub against the screws the hold the cross pins in. Two of the three screws had their hex heads sheared off. The other hex head was barely recognisable.

hi there , do you think this wear issue is occurring while locked or unlocked .
Wish I had seen this post earlier and made enquiries .
I have a rear Eaton delivered tomorrow and will now have it fitted by a registered mech . Just to cover my ass a little more in case .

Can you return the locker? They are easier to deal with if your mechanic does the job.

It's unknown if having the diff locked or not makes a difference. It seems the axles are too long and they rub on the bolts that secure the spider gear pins together. Once the bolts are worn away the pins come out.

I probably drove around for about 10,000kms trying to diagnose what the clicking noise was before i pulled the diff. So they can hold up for a while unless a bit of the debris kills the crown gear or something.
