Hey all. How's the E lockers going?
Has anyone changed their diff ratios to compensate for larger
diameter tyres yet? Im looking at getting a set soon. Can someone
steer me in the right direction as to what is needed etc to fit different
ratios (3.9 or 4.1)?
Cheers

Re: Eaton/Harrop TRUTRAC rear diff lock

Postby SRD4D on Sat, 18 May 2013 12:55 +0000

I picked up my truck today,Had New Eaton diffs fitted, got the front Elock and rear trutrack fitted, after having a few dramas with bearings when fitting them its all good now.
I must take my hat off to Chris and Nathan at Opposite Lock at narrellan for helping me out today to get my car back on the road for tonight.

I must say the rear trutrac isnt as good as i expected,I used to be able to have one rear wheel in the air and the LSD would lock up and I would be able to drive out within reason,so the first thing i did on the way home today was to test this and expect it to semi lock up and drive out,but to my dispointment it sat there spinning one wheel and making a horible squeeling noise.MMMMMmmmmmm Ill be looking into this further
But It does lock up like an LSD on dirt that was the first test I did.
(as was someone else in there hilux as they drove past doing fishtails up the road) every one must have bought new diffs today

anyone else have a Trutrac to compare with mine?

SRD4D, your LSD must be more effective than mine. I got opposite front and rears in the air, and both just spun away - much to the enjoyment of the Triton, Ranger and D-Max guys waiting for us to pass. The rear may as well been fully open. I was hoping the Truetrac was an option, as I don't like the idea of an open rear diff in the wet. Let us know how you go.

An LSD will always spin if there is a wheel full in the air, it needs ground driven torque (even minor) on both wheels for it to limit the slip.

Not really...... depends on the car. I could easily drive my Gq with a front and rear wheel in the air and would keep going. Only getting caught up when both back were spinning and a front wheel with no traction (due to no front locker or LSD obviously)

Yeah patrols have a different style of LSD. One that's better Suited to wheel lifting scenarios. Hilux LSD is very effective and tight, maybe even more so than a patrol when there's still minor traction .... Until you actually lift a wheel , that's when the type of LSD in a Lux fails entirely ... And in offroad scenarios that's a big deal. Ironically though I rarely lift wheels it's most sand for me and LSD works flawlessly as there's always the minimum amount of traction to keep the LSD "wound up" (or whatever term we can use to describe the machination)

Someone once explained the actual physical design difference to me between patrol and lux diffs.

Would pulling the hand brake on in this situation help? Giving the diff some resistance to work against.

Sure would. Then it comes down to how buggered your LSD really is. Assuming of course you hand brake is working properly, which with our Hiluxs is a pretty big assumption ;)

Yeah - not sure how great my handbrake works!

I got the front e-locker put in (Opposite Lock Rockdale). Its great! Up at zig zag got the wheels in the air and stopped dead. A quick flick of the switch and climbed straight through it, no hesitation.

Its quite, quick and very effective.

Rear is still spinning, but got through. Maybe i wil try the handbrake option if things get really tough

Anyone care to tell me why we pay $1700 but the US pay $800 for an e-locker? Would it kill us if we just sorted out the model codes and ordered them from the US? The OZ resellers pay bulk prices from the US then slam us with the massive profit margin as if they've done something amazing to deserve it. Anyone care to enlighten me on how tough it is for resellers or the actual price they pay? http://www.filthymotorsports.com/Eaton_ ... locker.htm

because like most things, we get plundered up the ass in Australia simply because our market tolerates it.

LIkewise software that's twice the price here that in US (downloaded!) ... or getting a beamer M3 for $60k in the states is double if not more here. and on it goes.

Also anything over $1000 or so also gets slugged with GST if you bring it in yourself.

Friend of mine just bought a exhaust from Summit Racing for $2200 and customs charged him $500 GST
