Fitting Prado Brakes to Hilux

No, it is a normal 2011 SR5 dual cab auto V6, it is 3 years old next month. It had 15" wheels on it when new, still have them in the shed with less than 500kM on it. VSC didn't come out until MY12 on these.

Front only man. Rear upgrade is a whole another saga.

Fj cruiser : 338 x 32
Prado: 338 x 32
Hilux 4x4 : 297 x 25 with and without vsc
Trd hilux: 338 x 28
Hilux 2x4: 255 x 28
All these figures are as of 2014 spec except trd

Can guys with the 17" wheels and/or vsc, just increase the rotor size?

I just bought a pair of calipers, hard lines and backing plates off a 2007 120 series Prado. It has 150,000kM on it so i'll rebuild the calipers and get some new T3 PBR rotors and fit the calipers and backing plates. Should be the same as a TRD then.

I'll get the rear circuit proportioning valve adjusted properly once it has had its Ultimate suspension fitted.

Does a 2011 SR5 use Dot3 or Dot4? I guess the owners manual will tell me that.

Correction.....thou I cannot find it right now , but I came up with similar figures when I searched but I dont beleive yours or the ones I found today to be correct going by experience.

Non-VSC equipped Hilux - Pre-2011 = 296x25
With VSC Equipped = (also states 296x25 but in my previous searches it revealed 319mm which makes more sense compared to Prado120/TRD Lux.)
TRD Hilux = 338x28
Prado120 = 338x28
FJC = 338x32 (previous Gen FJ in the US had 319mm front rotors)
Prado150 = 338x28 (dont beleive this to be correct as Prado150 are larger than Prado120.)

So going in order from smallest to largest it would be -

Early 2005-2011 Hilux with factory 15's
Hilux with VSC & Factory 17's and FJ cruiser
Prado120
Prado150.

DBA show 150 'cruiser as 32mm, same diameter as the 120 'cruiser just thicker.

Cost so far:

2007 120 series calipers, hard lines and backing plates - $165 a side.
PBR Japanese made caliper kits - $45 a side.
Bendix DB1482-4x4 pads - $85.

Rotors i'll find out on monday if I can get them, DBA T3 slotted - $200-$210 a side. Standard heat treated are $170 a side but they aren't Aussie made. You can buy cheap-ass rotors and pads on Ebay for $150 all up (both sides) but i'd rather know what I have.

Looks like a straight bolt up, tried on a few at the wreckers. Just a bit of fiddling emoving the hub to change the backing plates but looks easy enough.

DBA T3 rotors were $210 a side. So now I have everything. Off to Ultimate on monday for a suspension kit and i'll do the brakes over the next few weeks.
When I pulled the backing plates off some Prados at the wreckers, some of the hubs released easily from the driveshafts so I could get the backing plates off. A few wouldn't budge no matter how much lube or how hard we hit the shafts. Hopefully mine lets go easily!

I pressure washed the calipers and popped one piston, nice and clean inside. What can I use to clean all the discolouration off the caliper bodies? They are nice and shiny under the mounting bolt shadows. WIll carby cleaner get it all off before I strip them and put new seal kits in?

I think after Toyota upgraded their website a couple of specs are out on some of their vehicles - I checked with some aftermarket manufactures and Max's specs look good.

Just thinking out loud, about the above comments, is there any reason why you could just use a complete Prado rear axle and get the spring saddles welded on?
The over all GVM off the prado is higher than a hilux by a few hundred KG so you think the housing etc would be stiff enough.

or keep the Prado axle the same and weld the top mounts for for coil towers onto the hilux chassie for a coil rear end

Prado rear diff has a slightly wider track than the hilux's.

if you replace your calipers with larger ones and get rotors to suit it'd work....just need to ensure wheel clearance.
