yes I believe that is correct.
Could you clarify what affect the 27/29 spline variants of the 4.1s will have on completing this? I skimmed over the spline count completely. From my quick research just then, we previously needed a multi-fit drive flange to get everything to mate. However, I'm assuming the increased options offered by Nitro make this no longer necessary and it should fit out-of-the-box (assuming the correct gear is purchased)? Are you able to clarify on what spline count I'm after for front and rear re-gearing on an '06 SR D4D, manual transmission?

I believe the spline count thing is no longer an issue as Nitro now sell the correct ones for our year (it's actually listed in their catalogue), or buy through Buds Customs who I'm sure will verify for you

Thanks for the help, packeteer. I'll make sure to call around before committing.

I think this thread put the Moz on me as I broke my Nitro 4.1 rear diff driving to work recently. Its been in a while since it went in so it is a 27 spline crown wheel.

Have ordered replacements though Buds Customs and am getting 29 spline replacement and a matching drive flange. This will mean the rear is standard and will have a stronger spline which doesn't help when the crown wheel lets go....

Sucks driving around town with mismatched ratios. Third time for me. I've removed the knob from the T/case lever to remind me to leave 4WD alone! Glad I have a spare diff.

 Apologies for the bad luck, Rod. Hope you're all sorted now?

Back again with another question - or rather, hopefully affirmation from more intelligent minds. Managed to find a HiLux differential centre just around the corner from me for the rear. It's a 4.1 from a 2006 Workmate, non-LSD type, B05A. Would this suit what I'm after, is it all compatible, and can it take the rear eLocker?

Cheers!

That's a little nugget of info, and no carrier issues if the complete diff can be found :D I thought the autos were all 3.7s and the 3.909s were only in Prados.?

To me 3.9 would be just about ideal with anything from stock up to maybe 32s. IIRC 3.9s were in the 1kzTE and they are gruntier feeling to drive than the 3.0L D4D with 3.5s and slightly taller stock tyres

I reckon 3.9's are ideal for a diesel manual with upto 285's

I'm running 4.1's on mine and find the highway roar sucks, it is better offroad tho

Hmm, even if I grabbed the Workmate 4.1, I'd still have to source a front 4.1.

3.9s are such a rarity :( Will keep an eye out though.

I have a set of 3.9 centres ( full centres with crown and pinions) out of my 2012 auto hilux sitting at a mates place in Townsville, they had 40k kms on them when I swapped to 4.11s to match my 33,s. PM me if your interested and we can sort something out

I am currently running 295 muddies, so they use more fuel even with the tune.

so iirc, at 100km I'm doing around 2360, and at 110km/h I'm seeing a bit over 2500rpm, and 12L/100

3.9's used in Prado120's, Prado150's, FJ Cruisers, and 5speed auto D4D Hilux's, not really that rare.

Factory 4.1's are more rare, as they only came out on 1KZ equipped Prado120's and the N80 4x4 workmates now.

Hey all. I've read the thread a few times now and am still a little confused.

I have 2011 D4D auto that has 3.7's and ran 29" inch tyres standard.

I want to run 33's and from what I've read 4.3 ratios are perfect for this.

Now here is where I get confused..... from what I've read I need to change over to a Prado 120 carrier to run 4.3's.

I'm planning on putting in e-lockers at the same time so I'm unsure if I need to source a Prado 120 front Diff or just order lockers for a Prado 120 for front and rear and then order the 4.3 ratios and fit these in the standard Hilux housings.

I know all the info is there, but the more I read the more confused I got.

Thanks in advance.

Shamat,

you just need to order Prado120 front diff locker to suit the 4.3 diff gears in the front.

standard hilux locker and aftermarket 4.3 diff gears for rear.

Hey guys, a mate of mine has the old Nitro 27 spline rear diff set list, I can get it pretty cheap but am I better off going the newer 29 spline variant? And issue if I ran this in back and prado in the front? Cheers guys.

Speak to rodw....i think from memory he fitted the old 27spline option and needed to change the flange on the diff where the tailshaft bolts to make it work. Pretty cwrtain he had a thread here somewhere on it.
