Hilux 08 CV replacement problem

Postby Yianni107 on Mon, 06 Jun 2022 10:13 +0000

Hi I've managed to strip the upper ball joint bolt to non existence on the upper control arm, so I'm wondering if there's another way to avoid undoing this bolt? Possibly undoing the upper control arms?

And while on this topic, any tips to remove the rounded bolt? It's one of those castle nuts that has barely any teeth on it left with a shamber on end. It is locked up extremely tight.

And any tips to get the tire rod thread out of the hub? I've tried sending it with a hammer and didn't get far

for the rounded bolt you can use locking pliers.

but if the nut turns freely, it will be useless, you will have to try to resize the nut in 6 sides and use the right socket to the exact size with a 6-sided socket exclusively with an impact wrench.

if you tap on the threaded rod of the transmission shaft, you must leave the nut to increase the striking surface and not damage the thread

if this is impossible, you leave the upper ball joint and you try to undo the 2 nuts at the bottom, which are at each side of the lower ball joint nut.

use only 6 sides sockets

they are clamped to 160nm

you must first remove the abs sensor completely from the hub carrier otherwise you will break the electric wire and lock the disc brake with wheel nut

then you can pull on the hub carrier and release the CV joint head (watch out for the brake hose and it is heavy)

you have to leave the driveshaft nut in the bearing, you pull on the hub carrier, this will allow you to easily unclip the shaft from the front differential, by pulling on the hub carrier.

then you remove the nut from the shaft.

to reinstall the hub carrier you will need the jack to lift the lower arm as the shock spring pushes the lower arm down

I tried vice grips no chance, its really on there
Ill try the lower ones tomorrow
I think I tool abs sensor off, is it the single bolt plate that has a breather looking sensor going into the end of the diff?

To do cv’s easily, undo 12mm bolts holding brake and abs brackets.
Remove the caliper and tie up to the rear of the wheel well with wire, remove rotor, loosen the drive shaft nut.
Remove 2x lower ball joint bolts and yank the Cv out of the diff.
Remove Cv shaft nut, tie hub assembly to front of wheel well.
Remove and replace Cv shaft. Install in reverse order.
